Another Speedometer (Annuciator) Question

On my 2004 BDM Chopper, I replaced the EHC with the KMW RIP unit. The speedometer is a Dakota Digital, works fine. The lights for flashers, neutral, etc. work fine. The tach ring rpm indicator lights function...however, if the rpm hits any red, they stop working. If I turn the ignition off and back on, the rpm indicator lights function again...thoughts...theories? Thanks.

Loose or broken wire. You could try and put dialectric grease in the connectors for the tach ring and in the ehc connector if you are running that!

Ok, That is just werid because I just finish installing mine last night and that weird shit happened to me. I actually turned the bike off with the Off/Run button. When I turned it back on all the lights were on but you could see the lower RPM LEDs blinking slightly. Turned off the key and all was back to normal. I sent an email to Curtis to see if he has seen it before.

Then don't hit the red, if you continue to do that your are going to need more than just restarting the bike. You are over revving the motor or you Rev limiter is not where it should be. Mine is set at about 6200 and I seldom ever hit the rev limiter.

To be honest, I'm not that hard on a bike. It seems way too easy to rev to red line so I don't believe the rpm is calculating properly.

I think you miss understood. The lights are full on but you can see a slight flicker in the correct RPM range. It has not done it but one time. Trust me all the wires/connectors are good and tight. The entire install was triple checked. No way in hell I was taking this thing apart again.

I agree with you Roadie1389...me being OCD, I want everything to function, but I'm ok with mine as it is if the alternative is to reinstall the EHC. After all, it is a Big Dog and it's quirks make it attractive. I don't look at my speed much less the tach lights anyway Just thought there may have been an easy fix.

Now that you mention it. The one I put on that Mastiff, the guy said his tach did something. I'll have to ask him if he was red lining it when it happened. The bike is stored at my shop, and I ride it often, and the tach works, and hasn't acted up for me.
