So After going almost a year without a speedo I fanaly bought dakota digital. Install went smooth, tured on the bike lights up nice took it for a test ride and nothing. Dam! 240.00 for nothing. Have checked the plug under the tank. Have cleaned the speed sensor. Now what do i order a speed senosor and hopfuly thats that it is. Dose any one know a way to test these things out. Back ground a performed a wire plus install almost a year ago speedo worked fine for a week after that. One day out for a ride and the speedo stops working during the ride. The factory speedo still did a self check every time but that is all. :bang:

ain't sayin' this is your problem or your solution, just sayin', especially since you have the DD, which i do not.

when it has been a couple weeks between rides, even with the battery on tender, the voltage is plenty strong enough to start the bike (braille battery). it will go through the sweep, all lights are working properly, and i start to roll. DAMN! speedo ain't working. i will ride a few miles and stop and turn the bike off and re-crank it and, usually, the speedo will start working. may be that my battery is borderline, don't know. it's something you can try.

good luck.

I thought i had a battery issue so i ordered a braille battery. Nope turns out it was my computer so dont think the battery.

Mine would do the same thing. Drove me crazy finally went back in to the instructions and pulled the side cover off and started from the begining found one wire that was not hooked up.Solved the that problem just before i started to buy a speedometer.

Well if its the power or ground will the speedo light up. Because mine lights up. And the factory did the self check.

The speedometer and the speed sensor get their power from different connectors/pins on the EHC so I'm assuming the speedo power/ground is OK considering it lights up.

The speedo sensor gets its 12VDC from A-15 and its ground from A-30. There should also be continuity from the green wire of the sensor to the green wire of the speedo itself.

Anyway, to check power to the sensor, unplug the speed sensor, turn the bike ON, hit RUN, and see if there's 12VDC from the red to the black on that plug. If don't get voltage you'll need to determine if you have 12VDC coming from the EHC or if you're missing the ground from the EHC.

PS Got any EHC fault lights ON?

And check that the green wire from the sensor plug on the bike has continuity to the green speed sensor wire at the speedo and that you do NOT have continuity to ground (not to be confused with the green wire to the tach, that's the neutral wire, which will have continuity to ground when the bike is in neutral).
We know you have power and ground to the speedo (and that the speedo works) because it did the self test.
If you have power and ground to the sensor plug and the signal wire is connected and not grounded, then you have a bad speed sensor, nothing else it could be except for the speedo calibration, and it's very unlikely that the original speedo totaly lost it's calibration, and that the new one did too (the Dakota Digtal should come pre-programed with a calibration number, weather it's correct or not is another question). If the calibration is off it should just read the wrong speed not zero speed.

Well have checked all the wires. Have ground and power to the speed sensor. So i think its a bad speed sensor. Dose anybody have a part # for a 2008 ridgeback. Or better yet a speed sensor they might be willing to part with.

I have the same problem with the speedo wires being broken. Can ANYONE help out with this??? Need a pic or at the very least where the wires go.

You didn't mention it so I'm wondering if you checked continuity and made sure the green wire isn't chaffed to ground like bearman and I have suggested? If you did I'd agree with you that the sensor is bad.
