Another CHROME Flaking Opinion Request

The bottom of my LH fork is peeling (see photo). And since the weather JUST started to get nice, don't want to do anything with it until later on, closer to snow time-so to keep it from peeling more what do I do?....I've googled and searched the forums, some say super glue on the edges (would think that would damage it more); or clear nail polish...anyone done either or and had any lasting luck?

And on re-chroming...would it be cheaper to just remove the bottom slider off the fork in the winter and have it redone...or would finding a used slider that's still in good shape be easier/cheaper?

Thanks

Wow...that's pretty bad. You can try clear nail polish but i would just buy a used slider prob cheaper than a 're chrome. I would keep the slider and send it off some day for when the other is ruined and keep swapping!

Good luck

As to the slider, is there a specific part number for my 05 ridgeback or will most any slider work for the application?
OR, is there anything else out there I could replace it with?

Thanks,

Wow that's pretty bad, if you can't get it rechromed you will probable have to get it replaced. It's not that bad of a job. There are threads to show you how. Just for others information, I had a break caliper bracket peeling, and I just striped the chrome off, and polished it out. Looks great.

Yeah, I have the manual and exploded view and have read a few threads on it...if I could get a new one for a decent price, I'd probably just replace it and do what Infamous said...but If I found some new ones, I'd leave this one the way it was for riding season, then put the new ones on in the winter and re-chrome the old one for a spare... :D

So, where can I find a used or replacement one? Would any slider from any BDM fork work? No matter the length of the forks? Are the sliders the same size even though forks are not?

Get it stripped and chromed or be prepared to buy a full set from Bigdogpartsking.
I am working on a replacement lower leg set but it is a ways down the project list

For the riding season I would just cover it up with a sticker. I don't think a sticker would look as bad.

I have used a heavy clear plastic contact in the past to protect, all forward facing items.
When they start to go cloudy, you just peel it off and put some new contact on.
Saves on stone chips, and scratches. That said i have not done that to my BDM.
Now i am paying the price.

Talked to them this morning via email...they were working? On mothers day? Anywho, giving them a call tomorrow...they may have a 'loose' one laying around, but I'm gonna break down and probably buy a new set which they said they had....then this next winter, swap them out.....and see what else I FU this summer...
