A reputable mechanic stated that i needed to use the Anaerobic gasket maker to cure my leaking O ring on inner primary cover. Has anyone used this stuff before. It states on the tube that it's rated for 300 degrees. seems low for where it will be applied. Any advantages or disadvantages as opposed to high temp rtv? Thnx

I just purchased '06 Pitbull and had oil leak at the primary insp plate. My friend has a K-9 and is an experimental aircraft builder, we eliminated the gasket completely. Clean both parts good. Then we used auto paste wax on the primary (rub it everywhere the rtv will touch the primary side including the bolt holes and wait about 30 min), Apply hi-temp rtv "thick" to the cover in place of the gasket (not in the slot - on the outside edge only about 1/4") and bolt it up, do not tighten yet. Leave about 1 turn on the threads. Do not tighten for at least a couple hours. When you tighten it, it will be a permenant seal that you should be able to remove and reuse many times without doing it again. I've put on over 300 miles and no leak! Good luck!

OK, I put about 1K miles on and just did a complete 1800 mile maintenance on the bike changing all the fluids. I had a hard time removing the primary inspection cover but it came off with the self made gasket in tact and un-damaged. It was like rubber and formed to fit every where to make a good seal. I trimmed a few places, changed the fluid and re-installed the cover, put 50 miles on and no leak. I should have waxed a little heavier on the primary case to prevent sticking innitially. To remove the cover, I threaded the lower back hole of "just the cover" and used a bolt to pull it off. Worked well. Hope this helps someone. Good luck........
