... .... .- .. -.
Seems like just a few years ago someone was saying anything beyond the 585 need the upgraded springs.
I don’t see any inconsistency here. It appears it depends upon how your engine was equipped originally. If you click the link it says this.

“WSW only recommends this cam for Big Dog motors with the larger valves and G carburetor. If you have the smaller valves, later EPA motors primarily, and an E carb and do not want to do engine modifications WSW recommends the 585 cam.

Note: This cam will reduce your lower end power band, on stock Big Dogs, due to the low, roughtly 9.6:1, compression ratio and the stock locked Ignition Module in the Big Dogs. To really get the most out of this cam WSW recommends raising your compression a minimum of half a point and installing the Thunderheart Programmable Ignition Module. If you want to get the most from your motor without doing major engine mods go with the 600 cam and the Thunderheart Programmable Ignition Module.”

I took advantage of this deal last week. Previously I had installed the 585 cam(now available with 13k miles), because I was unsure if I had the large or the smaller EPA restricted valves, but when my rear base gasket failed, I was able to confirm that I had the larger valves.

I describe the difference as substantial. I don’t feel any low end torque difference, but at and above 3k rpm it is smoother, snappier and definitely faster. I hit 110 mph with ease and it was just stretching its’ legs. 110 is my limit(pussy), it’s not a Ducati. 3500 rpm is just silky smooth and it continues to pull without the sense of strain the 585 had or worse the stock cam. I did have to increase my main jet. Oh and my mpg went from 27 to 35.

I guess no tins takes away some of the strain too:oops:. I think i may have noticed less strain on the K9 when i rode it without the front fender but not quite sure;)
No worries here, I've got a 630 and lawnmower gas tank...no strain whatsoever..

Hard to feel the strain with it hanging on the wall...
That's true now, but when I used to ride it years ago it never stopped pulling right up to 5K, I'm sure others with the 585 would agree. But I never did like riding around in the 3500rpm range, its a cruiser not a sport bike, just sayin.:whoop::chopper:

The 585 was a big improvement over stock. But the 600 takes it to a new level.

BTW sport bikes live above 6k rpm. 3500 is not high rpm, and I don’t cruise there, but in the twisties or climbing ( SoCal is hilly), 3500 is a great place to be with a 600 cam.

We ain't talking about sport bikes, and they don't have the low end torque of a 117, I live in the mountains and don't run 3500rpm's riding 2 up, I usually drop a gear.
