Almost torn down Updated 2/11/10

Got most of the bike torn down today. Waiting for the front fender to come in, after it gets mounted the rest of it can come apart.

That's strange, I had a picture in the post when I previewed it.
Let me try again.
The plans are to repair the rear fender (cracked), replace the front front fender, new handle bars, repaint the fenders, oil tank and gas tanks, powder coat the frame, polish the wheels, triple trees, rear fender supports, repair engine oil leaks, polish the as much of the engine as possible. I just bought a new buffer. (you can see it behind the rear tire) I haven't decided on the colors yet. I keep changing my mind.

Nothing came with it for outriggers. I don't think it has a stability problem that I can see. I know someone else with the same lift and he likes it, that is why I got it. Hard to beat for the price.

Just to refresh his project, here is what he started with. Good work!

Well I cleaned the garage and got it on the lift today. I'm going to lose the blacked out look. Polish the wheels, the triple trees, the forks, rear fender braces and anything else that i can. Chrome exhaust, new fenders (try to lower the rear fender over the tire more), not sure on the paint yet, reseal the engine (small oil leak), I'm sure I will have some questions for you guys this winter. I've been reading and learning since I joined here.

Damn.... I like the blacked out look :D, well, to each their own. Good Luck, it's a good looking bike!

1 question. You got the lift from Harbor Freight? All the lifts I see show a length of 86" and the bike is about 102".... what gives? (I'm trying to find a lift for my bike too).

Merry Christmas!

The 102" must be an overall length. I wonder if the newer Mastiffs are longer ? I measured mine from the center to center of each wheel and figured it would be just long enough.

Was your bike blacked out from the factory? I didn't know they did that back in 01. Looking forward to the completed pics.

Raywood, I'm not sure how much of it was blacked out at the factory. The previous owner blacked out some of it and really made a mess of it. It looks better in the picture then in person.

I have that same lift and have had some heavy shit on it.
It is excellent!!
I put a extension on it so my chopper would fit.
I also put a wheel chock in the place of the one that came with it, i can only use part of the chock because of the low fender

i have the pro-cycle DT lift from greg smith equipment.

just wasnt comfortable putting a high end bike on a harbor freight lift.

the rear of the base has pipes that slide out as outriggers. its real sloppy when they arent extended.

Well I finally have an update. The frame came back from powder coating today. I changed it from black to Candy Blue. The the fenders and tanks will match with some kind of graphics. I'm not sure what I want to do yet. I think I might let the painter do what ever he wants. I wish I could have Airbrush Ed do it put this thing is way over budget now with buying a new rear wheel, triple trees and front forks. :bang: After seeing can-dogs paint I don't know if you can top that, Its just amazing what Ed can do. I polished the front wheel last week, my rear wheel should be shipped tomorrow, waiting for new neck bearings and I should be able to start putting the front end back together next week. I have a few more things to polish and then I have to do some work on the engine to correct a few oil leaks. The fenders, gas tanks, dash and oil tank are going to the painter tomorrow. It won't be long now I hope.
Let me know what you think.
