Just drained the crankcase, how much oil should come out of the crankcase?... Changing all the oil, do I fill it all back up in the oil tank, or is there some where else to add oil??

The best way to do this is to have tool called a scavenger. But if you don't mind cleaning up a little oil try this.

Drain the oil tank, remove the filter and leave it off. refill the tank with 3 quarts and start the bike for about 5 to 8 seconds. This will drain all the used oil in the crank case (will come out where the filter is supposed to be). You may want to put some rags in that area to catch that oil. Shut her off replace filter (new) and check the oil level at the tank. May have to add a little oil 1/2 quart or less. Clean up the mess you made for not having the scavenger :D and ride. Hope this will take care of the smoke.

Whatever you do don't drain the oil by removing the plug under the motor (crankcase) If you already did that be careful not to strip the threads when you put it back on. Again if you did that don't worry about cranking up the bike for 5 to 8 second just proceed by draining the tank replace the filter and add about 3 quart maybe a little more because of the new filter and that all you need.

OOPS you did drain the crank case, well now drain the tank and replace the filter. That should do it for you. There should have been about one quart or less in the crank case. But that is OK, next time just drain the tank. The reason no one drains at the crankcase is because it is aluminum and it can strip very easy if you over tighten or screw it in cockeyed.

There's the problem.....crankcase sump is flooded.

RUN some Seafoam through the gas via the tank. It works well for outboard engines that have been sitting some time.

The smoke/oil could be coming from an over-filled engine crankcase (sump) because it had been sitting for so long and the oil back-flowed from the tank into the engine sump. To drain the sump you will find the large hex socket drain plug under the engine crankcase. Remove this plug and drain the oil. Normally it would only have about 4-6oz. of oil. Once drained, reinstall the plug and don't over tighten it or cross thread the damn thing. Check your tank oil level, add oil if needed, replace oil tank cap and test run the engine again. You'll need to check and clean the tappet screen as well. What,s that you ask....

If you change the oil/filter (recommended), the drain for the oil is not under the engine, it's under the oil tank. If your're not experienced with V-twin engines I recommend you either get a good mechanic, knowledgeable mechanic friend or search this forum for your answers.

Using an oil filter having low flow properties can cause the oil to accumulate and flood the sump as well. Once the oil runs through the engine it ends up in the sump where it is pumped out through the oil filter and back through the oil return line to the oil bag (tank). You can use a K&N 170C (C=chrome) oil filter. I liked them because they have a nut on the end for easy removal. I now run a K&N cleanable billet filter.

After writing this I see it was already recommended to drain the crankcase......Oh well, it's a slow morning. Let us know the results.

Good to hear you got rid of the smoke issue. I also have an '07 K9. Great bike. You will be pleased. These bikes listed starting at $30k back in '07. Sounds like you found a basically new bike and hopefully for a great price!
