air pump

there was a post about the airpumps that hook into the sparkplug hole, but i couldn't find it......
well i had a first hand experience with one today.
picked up a nail in the rear tire of ol' roadhog today......pulled to the side of the road....and got out my plugging kit. found the nail, pulled it, installed the plug as per instructions. used the bike engine to inflate the tire. here is how the thing works, the gasses in the cylinder are expelled through a set of vents, so none get into the tire, this action sucks air into the hose and the pressure is pushed down the hose into the tire.....pretty cool little tool. i hid the sparkplug boot under the seat so as not to ignite the gasses comming out of the adapter........took about 30 minutes total to repair.......
hope this helps some.................:flag:

That is crazy... I would have to see it in person!

Do you use it with the motor running?

yes the engine is running, on one cylinder. an internal combustion engine is basicly an aircompressor. when on the compression stroke, the hose lets the vapors to the outside, while pushing a piston and thus creating a pulse of air to inflate the tire.....takes about 1 minute.......i havent taken the "works" apart yet to see exactly how it works, but i know it does........

I've wondered about those pumps before and I guess it's not to hard on the motor to fire on one cylinder at least for a minute or two!
