Air compressor for tire mounting

Getting ready to equip myself with the stuff needed to begin doing my own tire mounting, and was wondering if there are any particular requirements for the air compressor.

It appears that you need something with enough gusto to get the tire beads to seat as I guess you need to overcome the air loss until that happens. At least that's my understanding of this. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

In shopping around I've noticed all sorts of PSI and HP ratings, not to mention the CFM. I believe when inflating the tire and trying to get the beads to seat you just need 40 PSI, but is their a minimum CFM requirement?

Any help would be appreciated.

anything with a decent size tank and you should be fine. get an airchuck that will lock on and remove the valve stem for max air flow

For what it's worth: I've got a 4.5 HP 20 Gal. Fine as can be for pizza cutter front tires, but barely adequate for Hardly-dam-Davidson 150 rear. Cinching down a tie-down strap around the circumference helped...

Bigger has got to be better, can't imagine doing any good on my K-9 300 with the compressor I'm using.

Suggest ordering in a couple of rim protectors, J&P, whatever, and at least two tire irons. I never seem to have enough hands to do it alone, so maybe let your friends know that beer is available...
