This could be a great opportunity for Big Dog to pick up some more dealers...which we all know they need. More dealers = more sales= a stroger company as a whole...puppy farm you listening?

The TMC are way overpriced. They do make a Harley look good though. ::D

Big Dog is priced right in the 26-31K range.:2thumbs:

You would have to be crazy to buy a big dog franchise right now unless you plan to lose your ass for about 5 years.

re

Great bunch of people there. Did you mention this site to them?
I've mentioned this site to them before and gave them the address. I doubt they've even visited here. They work in the industry everyday & I'm sure the last thing they want to do is go home and dive into it again before they have to go back to work the next day.

we are going to see alot of these companies disappear over the next couple years. the economy is in the shitter, and most folks are holding onto what money they do have right now. Election years are never good for business, and I would say this election year will be the worse one we've seen in a long time.

I hate to tell you guys...but the economy does not suck everywhere. We have a harley dealer that moved over 100 bikes last month...just like it does every month and has for a couple of years now. All the "Doom and Gloom" does pertain to certain parts of the country, but not the entire country. There are still people buying bikes, and regions that have economic growth. In those areas it would be a good move for both the dealers and the puppy farm to get together...thats all I am saying.

Respect your opinion....but Las Vegas has a healty job market and low unemployment and our dealer hadn't sold a bike in 1.5 months last I checked. It is offseason but I don't see any snow out the window.
Harley Davidson would still be selling bikes in the great depression. That is what every kid grows up wanting. I know I did. Not to mention there huge accessory and clothing line which big dog can't touch.

OK, get this, I called my buddy today that has an AIH and he about shit himself when I told him that they had closed down. Well, his wife calls directly to Texas and gets an answer and asked them if they are "down for the count". They told her that they are "re-vamping" and not shut down. That was it.

I think they are telling people that just incase they do decide to reopen.

February 5th. Below is the letter that Buck Hendrickson, CEO, just sent to all American IronHorse Dealers.

"This letter is intended to address dealers concerns with American IronHorse. Despite rumors, we are not closed, we have not filed bankruptcy, and we are not abandoning our dealers. We are currently in a production hold, in an attempt to prevent overproduction from the factory, or overloading individual dealers. This same overproduction and overloading of dealers has led to the majority of problems that you each see on a daily basis. As a manufacturer, if we do not take action to prevent a repeat of a problem, we are committing a huge injustice to each of you, and to ourselves. We are still offering incentives to dealers to help sell bikes, and hope that you will take advantage of these programs. As a manufacturer, we are also working diligently on projects to ensure a quality future both for us, and each of you. Moving forward, we will keep our network of dealers informed of all happenings, and hope that you will do the same. We thank you for your patience, and your loyalty to American IronHorse Motorcycles"

The greed that drove the housing prices sky high didn't help matters.

I feel the oil prices driving up the cost of everything is causing as much or more of the problem.

I know it has dried up my toy fund!

I'm a trucker/owner/operator.

$500 to fill it up and that lasts me 2 days.

That eliminates the extra bucks real fast.

AIH has been mismanaged from the start...the dealers both past and present can attest to that. Problems getting parts...getting re-imbursed for warranty repairs...the stories are rampant and have been going on forever. The quality of the products is not up to the standards that we as Big Dog owners enjoy. While I do feel sorry for the workers at the factory, and the people who bought their bikes...I do not feel sorry for AIH. They have done business this way for far too long and are reaping the results of what they have sewn. All you have to do is make a quality product, sell it at a fair price, then take care of the customer who buys it (as well as the dealers who sell and service it) and the bottom line will take care of itself. AIH has not done this from the beginning. They are getting what they deserve.

ok rant over now

I borrowed this post from Club Chopper, but I think it seems accurate. The responce from the CEO of AIH reeks of denial...

With respect to Mr. Hendrickson, he lacked clarity in his letter. Allow me to interpret:

"We are currently in a production hold, in an attempt to prevent overproduction from the factory, or overloading individual dealers."
TRANSLATION: Nobody is buying a $36,000 discretionary item like our product when the economy is headed to hell's half acre. We can't sell them, so we're not going to make them. We can't pay our employees either, and they decided they won't "overproduce" if we don't "overpay" them. They are all enjoying a nice mid-winter vacation at this time.

"We are still offering incentives to dealers to help sell bikes, and hope that you will take advantage of these programs."
TRANSLATION: We are starved for cash. Big time. Knock 40% off the price of a bike if you can find someone that qualifies for financing. Just dump the suckers and send us some cash!

"Moving forward, we will keep our network of dealers informed of all happenings, and hope that you will do the same."
TRANSLATION: Pay no attention to the inoperable, unanswered telephone line and unreturned emails. The court will contact you to arrange for the pickup of creditor-claimed assets (unsold bikes). Please contact the court to file your claim as an unsecured creditor for partial payment of service work performed over the past 12 months. Our forensic accountant expects that the payout will be approximately $0.08/$1.00 claimed.

Have a nice day.

Sounds like somebody over at Club Chopper has this thing figured out...lol

txchopperguy seem to have found a good link of the real intent of the CEO letter. That letter to the dealers sounds very similar to many of the Telecom letter and others that were sent out to all. Usually right before the quarterly financial were restated with an major loss followed quickly by a filling of Chapter 11.

Of course customer, employees, dealers, stock holder (if applicable) will take the brunt of the the hit while the CEO gets a big bonus due to cutting cost right before the fold the company up.

Funny you say that Fiber...the first known leak of this posted by Cyril Huze stated that everyone had been let go except a few "big salary" types...

The buzz at the VTwin show from three different sources was that the clock is ticking on the company. The big announcements were that Custom Chrome filed bankruptcy and that AIH was in SERIOUS trouble
