Thanks

OR... you can buy a frame from BDM Performance and build your chopper.

Now that is a helluva an idea!! Still in process of transitioning from retiring from active duty to my civilian job but once things are settled I think I will try it. I am not a mechanic but have some basic skills. Concern is that I do not want to get over my head and end up having it sit in the garage for years collecting dust.

I wish I had more money.
Heck yeah!
Stick around. You'll know everything you need to know about the bikes when you do finally get one. That's what I did. Hung out for a year or so before I got one. Was well on my way to doing things myself.

Roger that and thanks Tim. Bike was on consignment and had to put a healthy cash deposit to ride her. It was an 04 with a 117 not a 107 and I was impressed, it rode better than my 109!! But they would not budge at all on the price and I don't blame them much I guess as they had a bunch of folks looking at it and lined up to ride it. Long story short I ended up trading for an 09 Road King with some bells and whistles and chrome and low mileage. The desire to have a chopper is still there more so than ever after the test ride just going on the back burner once again for a period of time. So in the meantime I will stay here and get educated on Big Dogs until I am in position to buy one. Thanks for all the advice!!

Panzerman, you shoulda got the chopper, I bought mine 4 years ago and not one problem yet same setup with the 117 and all. no issues with the ehc as yet and I just want you to notice at runs how everybody walks past an entire row of hogs to stand and ask questions about our dogs and drool! just sayin.

Yeah the low mileage is jacking the price up on ya. They'll problay come off that price in this economy trust me. Just use common sense and you'll be ok. When i was looking at choppers i run across a 09 with like 1800 miles on it the price was right but i noticed the tire was wore out that put up a red flag somebody had been playing a little to much . I ended up buying new because wanted to put my own miles on it and didnt want somebody else's problems.Just use good judgement and do your research a you'll come out fine:cheers:

Looking forward to retirement
I have a 04 Chopper and love it. Only had 3 problems with it #1. Had to replace the neck bearings at about 6500 miles, #2. Due to my stupidity I tried to jump start the battery with a jump box and fried my EHC box, #3 Starter went out last yr at Sturgis and had to resort to my HD for 2 days while the starter got changed out.

You are right

I think that goes without saying but not looking for a chopper so people will notice me, don't really care if they like my bike or not, I did not buy it or will not buy it for someone else. With that said I drool all over other folks choppers too as I think they are fine looking machines. The chopper will be on my tank ramp some day, whether I try my hand at building my own or buy one built. The ride the other day cemented my desire to have one but I would like to get a good deal on a bike that I really like and know exactly what I am getting not just get a bike and take one in the ass on price. Like I said will hang out here and read the posts to learn more, maybe meet a few of the guys that ride choppers and when the time is right and money is there I will get one.

I have an 04 RT Chopper and Love it. It was my first bike and a lot of people tried to talk me out of it. The ride is nice and smooth. 2 years ago I paid 12000 and it had 3400 miles on it. It now has 18000 and I rode it all the way to New York and back. I would try and get them down on the price.
