hi, im new here, i have a 2007 big dog k9. i looked at the tech page and followed how to adjust the clutch, heres my problem:
1. i loosened clutch all the way then removed cap on tranny to get to nut and allen screw, now the 11/16th nut wont turn at all(counterclockwise) and the allen nut wont turn at all either, so instead of breaking anything i left it then went on to just adjusst the clutch cable
2. i tightend the bottom adjuster all the way down then tightened the nut on top of it.....took it for a ride and clutch lever feels tight with a good snap back and finding neutral is good now although the bike now slips 3rd and 4th gears when getting on it hard......

heres my question: what is the normal positioning for the adjusters on the clutch cable so i have a tight clutch but wont slip gears.....p.s. i didnt slip before i did this so im feeling i did this.

also the clutch now grabs way to low:bang: please explain in simplest terms and possibly with pics....thnx

If the only thing you did was adjust the clutch cabe it shouldn't be that fucked up. Do you have about an eighth of an inch between the end of the cable cover and your lever housing.

Welcome to the site. Go over to the "Intro" section and tell about yourself.

As for your clutch you must understand that the cable sleeve adjustment only adjust the handle tension but if you tighten it to much it will pull on the clutch pack and offer the slipping you are experiencing.
For the clutch unit follow this thread as you aren't the first to ask the question. We have a long "How To" section here with about all you would need if you would have looked in the right areas.

As far as getting that 11/16th nut loose to adjust the push rod, I had to use an impact. Just a couple of quick taps with it and it came loose. Once I got that out, I took off the cover for clutch actuator where I found that it had never been serviced. Putting it back together I learned: ensure that freaking little ferrel doesn't fall off the end of the clutch cable and that the actuator stays to the rear (your left) when putting everything back together. My question was then, how do you measure 1/16th free play? I adjusted the clutch and would squeeze the lever and repeat this while looking at the clutch actuator. When I got to where I could squeeze the handle about 1/16th" before it moved, I considered that the free play. Does anyone disagree? I couldn't tell what was actually free play alone in just the lever.

I don't recall right now who to give credit to for this tip however; I learned from the fine folks on this site to adjust your cable slack so that your lever will just hold a dime. I've been using it successfully since. Search is your friend here on this topic....

When I was a kid wrenching with my Dad on his Harleys, the term 1/16th of an inch never even came up. I was always taught to use a dime and that technique has never failed me yet!!!

The 1/16 is referring to the gap or opening between the hand lever and the hand control. JUst like in the nice how to with pictues I believe!!

the first time I adjusted my clutch 06 K9, I took off the cover at trans. and I to had a very hard time getting the nut free. My clutch always slipped and hard accel.. even after BD installed new ones. The only way I was able to stop slipping was to install totally different system. I ended up install a KARATA open primary with a dry clutch ( no more slipping).
