adding gps and speakers

first you have to make sure that all the stuff you are putting on will be able to be powered by your charging system!! (I believe you have a 40 amp system (correct me if i am wrong!!!!) then if your system will handle it just hard wire it to your battery, With a fuse!!!!!!! sounds like A LOT :down: of trouble for a GPS and some sound!!!! My buddy down in San Diego has run a GPS unit for a couple years now. He just got this new one last year. He uses it for music also using ear buds. It mounts right to the bars with there mount.

Speakers are rediculas I think unless you are going to put an Electraglide fairing on the bike. You won't be able to hear over the wind blast. Better to use ear buds if you ask me.

Your bike has a 35amp chargning system by the way. :cheers:

What Ray said! I had a GPS, and never looked/used it. I use earbuds with my Blackberry for tunes daily back and forth to work.

Personally, I let the 117 and pro pipe do the singing for me. You must still have stock exhaust if you think you'll even be able to hear anything coming from those speakers.

I use this little setup on all my long distance and local rides. It blocks out the wind blast yet still allows me to hear/feel the motor. Runs on a single AA battery and I carry a battery charger that plugs in to my Battery Tender so I can recharge all my electronics like camera, laptop and phone.

Are you wanting it with switched power instead of straight to the battery? I would run it thru a relay so you can isolate your accessories from the rest of the electrical system. I can put something together for you that would be a plug and play. Where most people go wrong with accessories is cutting into the wires. It depending on how it need to interface to your accessories it would be a very simple, cheap harness. Tell me how your accessories will be fed power (what type of connection you want) then we can figure out how and were to tap into the power up circuit.

I will be at the OKC Thunder run tomorrow so I will not be around PC till Sunday.

Night Train, do you recommend the same with electric clothing? I have gloves, vest and socks that have a thermostat and plug onto the battery.
Do you think I should have something more protected than just running it off the battery?

Ray,
I always ran my heated clothing to the battery. I was mainly telling him if he wants to tie into switched power from the EHC it is better to isolate it, that way if an accessory goes bad it does not affect the other items on the power up circuit. If something is mounted directly to the battery it is not as easy to to isolate since at some point or another all things electrical make it back to the battery. As long as you properly fuse anything directly hooked up to the battery you should be fine. Also watch how you run the wires. I investigated a BDM fire that turned out to be someone wired a battery tender jumper to the battery and ran the power wire over the top of the ground. It was only a matter of time until the wire was cut thru (or in this case I think the seat smashed it) and he let the smoke out as well as a flame or two. :angry:

Thanks Night Train. He you know I had one of the first to burn down on the side of the freeway. New 05 back in October of 04. EHC burned a hole in the battery. Thing stunk for months after the resin all melted!!! This was when they put that resistor in the coil/ignition wiring.

I put my Garmin Nuvi in a ziplock bag and put it in my bag. Primary tool is a map, but the Nuvi is great for finding things in the city as a reference. Interesting information about GPS mounting though.. Exhaust is ok to listen to- I put the limit at other people's music, though. I despise 'Ghetto blasters'.
