Accelerator pump issue on XXX

I am having issues with a hesitation when cracking the throttle. After checking the accelerator pump out, it is barely pushing the pump rod down so there is no way to adjust it to get more fuel squirt. After comparing the XXX to the stock carb it takes more pressure for the XXX to do the same amount of travel. I was wondering if anyone has had this issue or if you can get a stiffer spring to help it out?

Its new, been that way from the start. I checked the rod and made sure it wasn't been. It all looks ok just seems it takes more pressure to push the diaphragm down.

when you look down the throat of the carb is it squirting as you roll the throttle .... is there a hesitation in the squirt ?

No there isn't much of a squirt at all.
I'm not real familiar with the XXX carb.... but it should be a nice clean squirt, and you nailed it as being the culprit of the hesitation....if your getting full travel on the pump mechanism and it's only spitting a little fuel, I would then access the pump diaphram make sure it's installed correctly and check ball and seat make sure it getting a good seal and when you have it apart spray the passage way with carb cleaner and make sure its flowing out the other end in the throat of the carb freely...

yep, something is amiss there for sure, pump the thing by hand to see if it squirts correctly. If it does then look at the arms and such that push on the rod, maybe something is wrong there.

I just manual pushed it down with the bike running when i cracked it and worked fine no hesitation. It almost seems like the spring is weak.

how many turns out do you have the pump screw? should be around 2 1/2 or so
have a close look at the mechanical levers and spring there at the pump area to make sure somethings not amiss there, maybe a lever is on backwards or something. If you have the stock carb you can compare the two.

Put a tiny washer between the rod to push pedal. This will set the plunger in action sooner. Either that or bend the tab that is being pushed by the rod. I have no clue what xxx looks like. If we have a standard H-D carb, then loophole it with bending the plunger tab.

Mickey mouse I know... I'm that kind of meguyveer.

Pulled the carb off found that the last spiral on the pump spring was pinched between the end of the throttle tube and spring bracket. Thanks for all the input guys!
