about my float

when I changed out the bent tube that came on my new super g carb with the hose barb that was on my old carb a small brass piece fell out it has a small metal wire type of loop on the top of it does that hook onto the float or notI bit the carb on it starts and runs for about a block and dies I hooked that thing on the metal tabon the float but maybe shouldn't have any helpwould be appreciated

ok I found out that thing is called a float needle and according to the drawing I found it does hook to the tab on the back of the float so now back to square one on why it keeps dying

My float needle would randomly stick, starving the engine.
Replaced the needle and the seat and all is well!
