99% certain of 06 Mastiff purchase- questions to those who know

I am 99% certain that I will be purchasing a 06 Mastiff in the next few days. The bike has a tad over 4300 miles and appears to be in showroom condition. The current owner is the second owner and claims that the first owner did the 6 recalls on the bike. I asked for proof and all he can come up with is the seller seemed like an honest person (I have never heard of a seller who lies right?) Supposibly he was a very wealth person who had many toys, and used this bike to tool around too and from his many airplanes he owned.

Is there someway using the VIN to check on if/when the recalls were done since b/d is out of business. I asked the current owner if I could have the former owners name/number to call but he has not produced it yet.

The current owner replaced the factory speedo, he said, it did some 'crazy things..sometimes it worked, and sometimes it didnt'. He replaced it with I think is called a dakota digital speedo and showed me the box paperwork with the take off and miles documented/matching the new one which was programed at the local b/d former dealer/service center. When the bike was first started-cold in front of me, the digital tac portion did some flashing, this was when it was left to idle and the idle appeared to drop below the first led..he says that the idle was too low and after the bike warms up it goes away, that with a turn of a screw the idle can be raised but he likes the sound of a low rpm idle...btw when the bike warmed up after I took it around the block this flashing at idle thing went away...is this normal or some electrical gremlin that comes with a story?

The process for starting the bike was to move what appeared to be some kind of a choke on the right hand side a bit foward, hitting both compression release buttons, hitting a button called RUN for a few seconds (he says this resets the computer?????never heard of this but I have never owned a b/d before...does hitting run resets the computer??, then he hit start and it fired right up
What is the true market value for an 06 with what he claims is a stage 5 paint job? I cant seem to find anyone else who desribes a paint job as a stage 5 when doing a google search. I know nada lists 14,300 but when doing a search most people have prices that are much, much higher.

The seller has the owners manual 2 keys, the old speedo with box/papers from dakota digital, old pipes and thats it....

I just dont want to drop alot of cash and wind up with a nightmare problem bike..let me know your thoughts and any questions i should ask the seller

Here is a vid I made of the bike

Call BDMPP with the vin # and they can tell you the history.
I really like my Mastiff and you will love yours also:cheers:
Value is what you are willing to pay for it, but in this economy they are going for less than 16K unless they are exceptional and well optioned

Bike looks very clean. If it checks out and runs fine-pay the man what he wants or find yourself another bike. If it were yours-would you want to sell it for 15,500?

"ALL" rich people don't take good care of their toys. Play until they break and get another. Just a thought.
Take it for what it's worth.

The tach will flash if the rpm is below 500 this is normal. Im not sure it is a level 5 paint though. Looks more like a level 3. I have a level 5 paint on my ridgeback and it has mulit colored flames with ghosts peering out from them. extensive airbrush work. Nice looking bike. Go for it you will love the DOG.

OEM speedometers had issues. Many here have replaced theirs with Dakota Digitals. Tach is designed to flash at low RPM as others have said. My 07 has automatic compression releases (no need to engage manually). Someone with an 06 can comment. You have to ask yourself whether the paint justifies the $$.

Parts are still available. Need to learn how to turn a wrench.

I watched the video and the bike looks great. It is exceptionally clean from what I could tell. Mine sure isn't that clean but mine didn't just come out of winter storage either. Do you have a video of cranking it up? Maybe some guys on here will notice something about it with that info.

no vid of the crank..like a dumbazz i did not do that...i started the bike several times zero issues, road, shifted great, tons of low end snap..short shifting 1-3 and i was almost 75+- mph

i called bigdogperfanceparts this morning, gave them the vin and they confirmed with Matt who has access to recall records that all recalls were done...they knew who did it, where and when...good enough for me...

I am going to give you a level 2 or 3 at the most with that paint......Check out this link for paint designs offered by big dog and you can try and answer that one yourself. Either way vid looks good and the bike is sweet. Hope you can work something out with the seller.

Well, if you like the price, then I would pull the trigger on it if I were you.

Looks like a bike that has had good care. Very nice bike. Pushing the run button activates the compression releases. If it doesn't, there may be a problem. You shouldn't have to manually operate them, unless you like doing manual things. The price is not way out of line, but maybe you could get it down a little with some negotiation.

Looks good... Has aftermarket pipes and stock intake. I would offer 14000 and meet at 15000. I paid 10500 for my '05 over a year ago, but I thing I made a bargain at 2700 miles, Mine was all stock except the Electronocs ( EHC) was upgraded to the wire plus system. EHC are known to fail alot on these. I would ask seller if it still has the orig EHC?

Well, I opened up the wallet agreed to 15,500 and he did also... and in the 11th hour today when I was ready to pick it up this ahole pussied out..."I cant sell it, I am going to miss the bike" what a p.o.s. My guess is he does not even have a pair of balls..who does this? Advertise the bike, have someone come look at it, test ride it..agree to a price..get the money and puss out...

Tomorrow i have to go back to the bank and get them to take back the bank check.

Just wait till this ahole tries to sell this bike on cr***gslist again..he is going to be in for a rude eye opening experience. With every one of his posts will be mine....

That Dig looks dam good, has the S&S rocker boxes. Mine is a 2006 Mastiff with the Purgatory Graphics Paint job on it and came with the TP boxes. $15,500 is about right for a bike that well kept in my opinion. My was 36K out the show room floor. Don't think about it to long or it will be gone.
