Octane - Helps from igniting off in a kinetic way of lighting off the volatile.
Ethanol - Adds oxygen to help with burning the unspent.

Racing in the cheap seats - run 87 because there is less octane and burns faster... get it... burns faster.
High comp engine running low octane - Knock-knock, who's there? Hole in your piston who... right at the peak of the kinetic do they meet at the sparkplug. Ask me how I know?

Where Kinetic and Volatile Meet:
Slow starts, cruise all day - 87.
Hard throttle take offs/WOT while cruising - 93.

I have a place right up the street from me that has ethanol free gas at 93 octane and 110 octane but the cost is double.

I run super in all small engines. Gator, mowers weed eaters. High RPMs need more octane.
I put in 3 gallons in my bikes at most so it only costing me less than 9 bucks to top off. Well worth it versus a hole in piston.
