maryland does the same as pa. the only good news is that you do not have to pay personal property tax on a motor vehicle EACH year like virginia and some others.

every two years you get hit with a fee for "new tags" (the tags are not new, only the little sticker) i think it is around 120 bucks for a bike.

maryland is otherwise a tax hell: income tax, heavy real property tax, etc. if you can dream it, maryland will tax it.
But we have CRABCAKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:lol::lol::lol:
Seriously...sometimes the avoidance or alteration thereforof just paying the recomended amount is more costly than kicking out the bucks to begin with.....

went last week to get tag for bike. 685 for tag and sales tax. guess I should have handed them a "made out" bill of sale for like 4000.00 rather than taking the paperwork for dealer showing 13000.00. Didnt get the tag....gonna have to wait. Still pondering on the bill of sale idea. Frickin government!
Sorry no sympathy from me. I paid three times that when I registered mine in the great tax state of New York...sucks..:rant:

Paid taxes on $27000 @ 8% sales tax and then have to pay for personal property tax on it every year, which is taxed on 33% of value. plus plates every two years.

Miked- I have been wondering if Alabama does the same thing with the NADA book value thingy. That would be the way I would get caught too. Gonna do a little investigating before I attempt it. Other than being "called down" and embarrassed at the court house, Im not really certain what they could do about me "trying it".

TX has been doing that for a while now. New trick is they add $25.00 a month from date of sale on top of the 6.25% tax based on blue book. Sold a buddy my old bobber last year and he just registared it and it cost him an additional $450.00 :eek:
Thats why you never date the title. Let the new owner do that. fyi

In freakin Tennessee, each person that buys a vehicle (bike, car, truck, etc) has to pay sales tax. By the time a vehicle sales 3-4 times, the sales tax is usually the same price as the vehicle.

I bought 2 bikes in 1 year. Paid $650 for tax/tags on one, and $1200 for tax/tags on my dog. :job:
