.600 Cam Question

While I have the bike on the lift, Im thinkin about doing the pushrod adjustments. Also thinking about taking the cam cover off and seeing what cam I have. The previous owner said he had big dog put a .600 cam in and change the main shaft or main shaft bearings in the tranny back when they were in business before. If I do indeed have that cam, is there any way to tell if they did the additional recomended engine work to go with that cam? What..if anything...can I look for to verify? Thanks

In that case, I would hope that the previous owner did some head work, that's if he did have a 600 cam installed. I would think that maybe it would have been zero decked to bump up the compression, but that's not always the case. You could run a compression check to help verify if that was done. I think that'll be the only tale tell sign if work other than just installing a cam occurred. Other than that you can crack open the cam chest as you suggested and see what ya got in there....

Yeah Ill see what cam is in there first. As far as compression test goes. I rented one from the parts store awhile ago and it didnt have a small enough adapter so maybe Ill check harber freight for one that fit. What should the psi be...nkrmal range vs decked heads with the .600 cam install?

I'm not sure what the pressure will bump up to with the head work, Maybe John can chime in on what he's seen compression wise.

Anywhere in the 190 PSI cold cranking compression range, with the .600" S&S cam, then an increase has been done properly. (Comp releases dis-connected).
You still have TP boxes on the motor ?? If so they'll bite you.
