585 Cam, EPA?

From what S&S tells me I have the 585 cam in my 2010 Bulldog. I am planning on changing the cam and after a talking with some cam manufactures there have been several references to my cam as being an EPA or emissions cam. That being said I also have seen several threads on this site where people are wanting to upgrade to the 585 cam. Are they talking about the same cam that I am wanting to take out or is there another 585 cam that is being referenced?

The bad thing for me is that S&S says my springs and rockers(non roller) are only good for 580 lift, so I have to do a spring and rocker change also.

I have a 585 and love it - But i believe you have a 111 in that bike so I do not know the spring ratings of that engine.

546, is the S&S Emissions camshaft.

I can't imagine that you have a 585 cam in actually, I think most of the newer big dog's came with a 546 or 565. I believe that S&S was 546 and if you had TP Rockers you got a 565.

If you do have the 585 cam, then you would have what most consider an upgrade. You would need to beef up your top end if you want to go bigger.

why would s&s put those springs and non roller rockers in a bike with a 585 cam....id call them back and give them your serial number and clarify what you have....just sayin...

Ok, I guess I stand corrected...... I called S&S AGAIN today, gave them my engine serial # again and they said I have the 546 cam.:bang: They also told me that I have the 640 springs without the inner spring. This isn't what they told me before so I guess I will really know when I tear it apart.

Prepare on getting the S&S open computer to be to adjust the fuel mix on that 111 FI bike if you haven't done so. You might have to do the throttle body as well. Does no good to be able to handle more fuel/air if you don't get more fuel/air.

S&S quoted you the correct information. You must have misunderstood them the 546 Cam that Your later designed motor has in it was based on that particular(different) cam and it's lift & duration to comply with the epa limitations for sale in California.

It's kinda all over the board with the S&S valve spring deal.
IFFFFF you have a true inner and outer spring, with a red stripe, they SHOULD be the same springs used in part with the .640" cam. The BIG differences are:
.640" springs use titanium retainers
.640" springs have a flat dampner wire/spring, along with a true inner, and outer spring
.640" springs use a thinner lower collar.
If you have thick lower collars(.125"), they can be cut down to .060". This will allow you to use that spring assembly with a .600" lift cam.

ALWAYS CHECK TO BE SURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had the 546 in my 08
I put a 585 in and have been pleased with the results.
I used the stock springs and have the stamped non roller rockers.
The valve train is a bit noisy, I may try some roller rockers to quiet it down.

I took the rocker box cover off and it looks like it has the single bee-hive spring on it with non roller rockers . No red stripe 640 spring.

roller rockers

I am getting ready to do the 585 cam change in my 08 efi. I talked to S&S last week and the said the non roller rockers are fine for that cam.

As is the behive spring for that lift... if that is what you want....
I wonder what is best for the lively hood of our motors?
So what is some more friction and noise, cheaper is better I guess.... I think if you had a carb bike you would have the good stuff stock, roller rockers and triple 650 rated springs...
Money saved on one end, BDM, and the buck passed on to the EFI owners in this case.

Neil, I must admit I was/am really on the fence as to whether or not to use roller rockers. I know it would be a good piece of mind. The fact the S&S and Bowhunter, who has installed a couple 585 cams said stock rollers are ok, kind of has me leaning towards using the stock rollers?

I have a 2008 117" Ridgeback. It seems as if the 585 cam is the recommended all around cam to go with? If so, are there any other changes necessary? My bike has the VH 2-1 and stock intake. I plan on putting on a new intake and re-jetting. Any recommended jet size?
Thanks!!!

What should it cost me to put a 585 cam in my 08 Ridgeback as well as have my carbs rejetted? I'm taking the Bike to Barb's HD here in South Jersey and want to know about how much it should cost me. Thanks!!
