300 Tire?

I pulled a nail out of my back tire that measured 7/16 and it's still holding air pressure. The nail was in the center of the tire and not in one of the tread lines.

Any one have any idea the thickness of the Avon venom or an old tire with some wear lines that could check the thickness?

Thanks
KS

If the tire is not loosing air then your ok. The liner ply inside the tire is the part that holds air. The liner ply is what you see if you look inside the tire before its mounted. If the nail had pierced the liner ply it would leak.

here is a chart i found but i don't think it gives that much detail on it. http://www.avonmoto.com/download/Avon_mc_databook.pdf

the info on the Cobra is on page 13. it has info on the venom but only for the 330, not the 300

hope you can make sense out of it.
Wood,
I saw that chart but not sure what they mean by Depth, the chart lists depth of our 300's as 6.5mm which is .2559 and the nail I pulled out was .439 and yet it's not leaking (there is about 7000 on this tire), so I don't know what they are referring to.

Thanks

Thanks,

Damn that made me go check the tire again and it's still holding 42 lbs. How many miles did you have on that one?

I need to ditch the two things that make me wonder if it will get me home, ehc and avon.

This was the original tire and I had 8000 on it but it was smooth in the middle but no cords showing

Well you on two weels take a risk if it go flat with 60 or 70 miles , you never take a change when you have a nail in your tire, but that is my view on that , hope you be safe brother.
300 dollar Mmmmm :confused::up:

I hear you and I think the same way however getting fresh tires is beginning to be a problem.

I wonder how many of us have ridden X amount of miles with THINGS in our tires.

according to these numbers, with the depth of 6.5 and the thickness of the worn out tire at 1/4", looks to me like a brand new tire is barely 1/2" thick. did that tack go straight in or did it go in at an angle?

It was on a slight angle but I was not even thinking that once removed it would not leak.

I'm still hunting tires but not avon, trying to find out if the new Metzeler clear the belt.

Which Metzeler did you get?

I was just looking for some metzeler and found some of the newer 880's made in Brazil have been recalled. This info was in the HD forums.

This shit is getting old. :bang::bang::bang:

Never did find out the reason for the recall, a search took me to a HD forum and it got lost in my puter somehow.

Where did you get your tire and what is the date code?

Thanks

The only recalls I could find for Metz were back in 08 and nothing near our size, I got mine from JP cycles, date code 2013 for $320 I think. They say additional 10 percent off for October.
