Looking at Tire and wheel upgrades. Has anyone put a 300 Metzler on and does it clear the belt WITHOUT shimming the pulley?

Also what is the teeth count for the pulley on a K9?

Friend of mine has been running Metzler tires On his AIH and no good luck. They are way to soft compound. He does not spin the tire on his bike and he has been through 4 tires in less that 10000 miles!! He would change to Avon but his bike has a 280 on it and no other option. I'd stick with the Avon.

avons wear better, metzlers are better for grip (run them on my rocket). On the chop I'd go with tire life, not crazy sticky grip.

Got my Mets dropped off today and will have them on in the next couple of weeks. Went up to the 260 in the back.

Switched because of having to replace the front twice because of the rubber peeling off in large chunks. However, Avon was quick to replace with no charge.

I put the 300 Met on my Ridgeback and to me it rides better than the Avon. The Met was a hair wider and would just barely touch the drive belt. When the Met comes out of the mold it leaves a sharp ridge around the edge and this is what made contact with the belt. I put the bike on a lift, strapped it down, started it up and let it idle in first with the rear tire free spinning. I then took a mini grinder and lightly touched the edge of the lip and shaved that ridge until it cleared the belt. It wasn't much and only took 5 minutes to do. For me, the Metzler has outlived the Avon. I don't know if I had a blemished Avon but there was a difference in the ride for me. When this one wears out I will go with another Met. If they say this tire is softer then it would be a safer tire in my book. Why would you want to spin anyway, you aren't going anywhere. Plus, I like the hole shot the Metzler gives me. I have hurt alot of feelings on the rice burners from stop light to stop light. I use to run those same tires on my sportbike back in the day. I'm just partial to them. Now for the front, I'm up in the air whether to put on a Avon or a Met. The wear on the front with the Avon has been perfect. I will probably go with the Metzler though.

I tried both this summer and had the same results with both. I liked the metzler better. All I had to do after install is grind the edge off of the belt side. I did it with a grinder while the tire was off the bike but on the rim and then tuned it up while on the bike.

Comparing the two on Avon and Metzlers websites, the Metz says it is 1mm taller, but both say 300mm wide. The Cobra has a much better looking tread o it over the Metzler. The Metzler tread looks dated, like a tire from 5-8 years ago.
