2nd EHC toasted

Energy One
That was one of the first things I replaced a year ago. For back story: I bought the bike off a guy that could NEVER keep it running right. In late '19 I replaces starter, stator, vr, EHC. bike ran like a TOP for about 3 months (too bad I was working alot then so didn't get many miles on it)
Fast forward to 2 months ago the bike had an intermittent starting issue. Sometimes it would hit, most of the time it would act like the battery was dead. Replaced the EHC again this morning and now im running around testing the longevity of my fix

What problem did you troubleshoot this time to decide to replace the EHC again?

That same problem I called you about a few months ago. Bike would start 60% of the time. Then it got to be about 50/50. Bike constantly acted like the battery was dead. No tach, emergency flashers. I bought a used ehc, swapped it out and she's been running all day. So whatever is burning the EHCs is/may still be an issue. If so I'm not bandaiding anymore. Im putting it on the lift and ripping the whole system.

After replacing yet another EHC in less than 100 miles. I believe I will RIP it if it fails again. But, for the time being, the dog is howling...just desperately needs a flea bath View attachment 84401
What's the temperature when it fails? Is it on chilly days? Both my EHC's that I replaced failed when below 50F. Heat them up a little with hair dryer and the bike would fire right up. Right before I replaced the first one, it failed one night and I got it to start by pouring 1 gallon of really hot water over the ehc so I could start the bike.

Weather is always mild. I have a whole wiring harness from an 06 mastiff. I would love to figure out a way to set up some sort of simulation/test booth to diagnose these EHCs further. I find it hard to believe they both crapped out on me, but its the only common denominator

You can send it out for testing here. Also you never called me, it must have been another Mike on this site. Popular name.

Fwiw Luke, I had the OG ehc when I got the Pit. It crapped out. The only real option @ the time was the Wires Plus. It lasted about 8 yrs. (The magic smoke got let out of it.) I recently installed the Electronix box by WSW. So far its perfect. Plus he built in some owner configurable options which is nice. Pricy but I believe it will be rock solid for the life of the bike. JMO tho. Good luck whichever way you go.

I too have the wire plus on my mastiff. Gonna need to change it out here pretty soon. What you mean by some owner configurable options?

About a year ago I replaced my computer because it went up, with a rip unit from big dog from the very beginning it had issues. you shut the bike off The Horn would continue to blow, things like that plus my speedo would work sometimes and other times not, I called them and they wanted me to cut and test wires and all kinds of stuff and I explained after spending over $700 I wasn't willing to do that I ended up buying a system from Curtis along with installing a new voltage regulator and all the accessories stator etc. Which I also got from Curtis and the bike has been running great ever since I did have to fight with big dog to return their unit but they were finally nice enough to take it back less the shipping which I was okay with. I much prefer the new voltage regulator / stator set up that I got from Curtis because it works more like a car's system which I understand better being as I work on cars for a living. Also on the install it comes with an inline fuse which I installed along with the circuit breaker so there's double protection for the new EHC

It gives you the option to leave the headlight on or off when you hit the off switch, you can set the rear brake lights to flash 3 times before solid on....a total of 6 or 7 things you can "control". You can also add a bluetooth adapter and use you phone to start your bike...
