I did all the adjustments as ss instructs and went from a 74 main jet to a 76 ,

after i make the adjustments while idling all seems fine but when I take it out I have to keep turning the fuel mix screw to the left to stop it from popping on decel, and then its fine at lower speeds but when I try to hold a steady speed on the highway it keeps losing power until I give it more throttle

Is that spiked air cleaner pointing forward? Also depending on which exhaust you're running you may never be able to completely eliminate pop on decel...

Yes its running forward , should it be or should it be verticle also I am running Vance and Hines 2 into 2 big radius?

I see your busy fixing another problem on your 9 year old bike.As far as the carb leaking fuel shine flashlight into gas tank look for( mirror helps) liner material or rust. Then clean out petcock filter(preventive maintance) then remove carb call Curtis and order carb kit you will find your gas leak should stop dripping by replacing the needle seat. Changing jets is a waste of time when you have fuel leaks if you decide to rebuild carb get intake gaskets and most important check the float!

I don't run one but from what I've read guys have issues running it forward..I think it sounds like some of the issues you're having at hwy speed. Check some spime air cleaner threads maybe to make sure I'm not lying to you. And that is the exhuast I run and I get a bit of pop and my understanding is with that exhaust you're just going to have to deal with some of that....waiting for experts to correct me

Pipes like MB Mususas, Daisey cutters, V&H 2 into 2 with no baffles will pop on Deceleration. That's the nature of the beast. There is no baffle to stop it, and not enough long pipe to help with back pressure. My Madusa's at night time when I roll the throttle wide open and run through gears looks like a top fuel dragster shooting blue flames! But I run 100 octaine fuel. And on deceleration it pops flame out you could light a cigarette on.

I took the screamin Eagle plugs out that I put in and put the autolites that were in it when I bought it back in and readjusted the carb its running nice , I did this after it already had about 25 miles after fueling up and just checked the mpg again and I am over 33 mpg, awesome! That's better than my 04 was getting. As far as losing fuel it was from the carb vent hose and it hasn't happened since I tapped on the carb bowl while idling.

Ill try putting it vertical and if that doesn't fix the highway issues I probably will go with the 78 main jet as suggested

For comparison, I get 32-33 to and from work 13 miles with 25 % highway. I get 42 highway only on a long trip stopping every 150 miles and cruising near 80 mph. Stop and go will drop your mpg.

When I put the 585 cam and S&S dual runner on and took it for a ride it was popping and cracking, I didn't even try to adjust carb. I went from 31 and 76 right to 32 and 78, warmed it up and adjusted as per S&S instructions and all was good.

The only time I have every been between 60 and 70 mpg is with a couple of Honda 250cc bikes. Mopeds are up there and above but I have to believe you are lean getting 50 or above on any good running bike. Like mentioned above, I would be very careful being lean. I had a bike run like a bat out of %ell until I melted a hole in the top of the piston as a kid. I learned my lesson.

popping on decal, mine does that every now and then and found if I get it warmed up and then check the exhaust manifold bolts they will turn about half a turn each and it will stop popping after I tighten them all up. mine wasn't getting the poor fuel mileage you were, but at around 70-75 miles an hour would loose power and start cutting out, helped when I adjusted my intermediate jet, and main jet air bleed, but this was after I just installed my S&S dual runner intake. biggest thing that helped, and I just did it last week, was get a carb from xxx carburetor, bike has never run better.

I get around 30 mpg. and that is fine with me. But I sure wish there was a good looking tank for my mastiff that I could put more than about 3.4 gallons in after I have to go to reserve. If I put more than that in it, it will leak out the cap when I get on it hard.

I wwent up again on the main jet as suggested from s&s video but I didn't change the intermediate , should I? It runs great on lower speeds

The 03 chopper that I said got 62 mpg, was tuned at a Big Dog Dealer down in Nashville. It was called Reds something or another. It's been talked about on here before. This bike has no compression releases and spins over easy and fires in just a couple turns. I changed the plugs this last winter, that have been in there for 5 years, and they were clean, very clean. When we are out riding, and he shifts into 2 gear, he can smoke the back tire. It runs very strong. All they did was reprogram the ignition, and reset the timing. He is still running the duel fire ignition. If I wasn't running a single fire ignition, I would pull the program out and put it in mine. Other than a slit bluing on my exhaust, my plugs are clean, and it runs strong, and I pull 58 mpg. Ask BlueDog and Gabe, they have ridden with me, I don't baby it, It's all or nothing.

Been my experience that mpg gets better with speed and my best tanks have been in the 90-110 range.
And the tire thing, many riders are getting more than 20,000 miles on tires.

I still dont see 20k on a tire I barely got that on my HD. Question is how far past the ware bar are these tires and how many cords are showing?
