23 mpg ?

I just figured the milage and I am getting 23 mpg , I just bought the bike and I put the big dog spiked air cleaner on it and changed the main jet from 74 to 76, I adjusted the carb and as I was riding I adjusted the fuel mixture screw to the left until it stopped popping on decel , its running nice I also get a good puddle out of the carb vent tube after a ride ?

might want to check your float level, float needle and seat.

Sounds like you may have a stuck float and your draining some good fuel out...

I believe I am losing fuel Ill see what I can find as far as instructional advise on here or google, not much like yet though.

Fix the leak and don't be surprised if ya still get 28-32mpg, if ya ride it like ya stole it!

That's all I put about 6 thousand miles on my 04 with a 250 tire and didn't notice much ware on it but then again I wasn't doing burnouts etc..

I know you can free a float but tapping on the bowl while its idling is that what you suggest, I had it out on the highway again today and I couldn't hold a steady speed it would lose power and I would have to give it throttle , I changed the main jet recently and it seemed fine until today, does that sound like it might be the float as well??

I don't do burn outs either other than the rare Crotch Rocket blow off... But hard acceleration allot = hard braking = bald rear tire...:2thumbs:
That tire spins allot more than everyone thinks!

I guess Ill find out sooner or later , the original tire has 4400 on it now and still looks fairly new so I should be good to go for this season ,lol

I get 58 mpg out of my 03 chopper, and the other one I have in my shop gets 60 to 62, and he can out run me any day of the week. If the timing and carb are adjusted right, you should be pulling at least in the high 50's.

Milage like you guys are seeing is because the 03's had the small 107, the 117 are much bigger, more powerful and use more gas

Try bumping to a 78 on the main and readjust, see if it makes ant difference

Ill work on trying to find the problem I know Im losing fuel through the vent tube so Ill start there.

wrong, I have 2006 and get 45 to 50 per gallon, If you go to s&s website you can down load all info for adjusting carb. FREE, but a lot of time it is the idle mixture that will cause bad mileage. I most cases if float was stuck you would have other problems.

Also watch out because if you a just wrong and go lean! It will scar the shit out of the top of a piston! Helped a guy pull his heads on a bike when the motor died. He pulled off a 2 into 1 and put on a set of Dazy cutters adjusted his carb and it was way to lean. About 3000 miles later when the motor died we pulled the heads. Both pistons looked like they had been running with a hand full of ball bearings on top of them. Scared the cylinder walls also. Lean is bad ju ju! Always run slightly rich if possible! To do it correctly toss it on a Dyno!
