Cut right out of the 2005 manual: FUEL SYSTEM: Use only unleaded gasoline. Ethanol blended gasoline is approved as long as it has 87 octane minimum. Methanol or methanol blended fuel is NOT approved for use in your Big Dog Motorcycle.

Does the later model manual change this to 91. When did BD raise the compression above 9.6:1

Yes, if you have bumped your compression above 10:1 then 91 Octane would be appropriate, but not 93+. Premium is a misnomer. It should really be labeled slow burn/anti-knock and 87 octane labeled fast burn. There is an optimum octane for a given compression and that is what should be used. High octane racing fuels can actually lower HP and torque when not compressed sufficiently, especially as the engine heats up. This is based on numerous published tests. Science seems to indicate that engines will perform best with the lowest octane that will prevent pinging.
I wonder why the gas caps had this sticker on it from new, mine pings with lower octane but then again I'm not running in the 3500rpm's range most of the time.

Why are you guys using such high octane gas in a 9.6:1 compression engine. Octane should be matched to compression. 93 octane gas is formulated for 11:1 or even higher compression. 89 octane gas will likely burn more completely in our engines. Why waste money on gas designed not to pre-ignite with high compression Ducatis, Ferarri's, Lambos etc... Premium does not mean more power or cleaner gas. The BTU of 87 octane gas is the same as 91. Ethanol lowers the BTU's but increases the octane.
That's all good Spencer, but when I run this fuel additive in my bike the difference is unbelievable, no pinging, excellent throttle response, no deposits on the plugs, just all around better, and economically it's great, 1 oz. treats 6 gal. of fuel! $100 for 32 oz. That's good for 200 gal.:)

I don't know if this is true or not but California's requirement to add MMT to gasoline a few years back had adverse effects on vehicles.

So, make sure to do the research and be comfortable with using it prior to purchasing products with MMT.

I'm just saying "Be careful"

From the next link:

The relative octane boost available from the addition of MMT is modest. The octane benefit due to MMT addition drops off after an increase of 1 octane number...

The major refiners in Canada have voluntarily stopped using MMT, out of concern for the impact of MMT on advanced vehicles and pending the results of an upcoming review of the issue in Canada. As a result, as much as 95% of Canadian gasoline is now MMT-free (Inside Fuels 2004). MMT is not currently allowed in reformulated gasoline3 (RFG) in the U.S. and is not used by any of the major oil companies.

Although, who can believe what's on the internet!

You all asked for it, so here it is.
The place again will be Flint Oaks Resorts. The dates are June 21st to the 24th. You are welcome to show up on the 20th, if you want.
The number for reservations is 620-658-4401, or on line at reservations@flintoak.com

I know you all are going to flood the thread with comments, so this is the one to do it on. I'm going to start another thread that will be ONLY for what you have booked and how many in your party, and link the two together. This information is important for both Tim and the resort, so Please don't trash that thread, so I can keep a head count.
Be there or be square.

Talked to Matt today. His place is a mess right now. He was hoping to be moved to his new shop by now, but didn't get it done. So we won't be doing a Friday ride to there. He will be hanging around the resort, and were working on some Friday activities.
I know a few people will be showing up Wednesday, so I might just show up Wednesday night myself.

That really sucks. I wanted to see where they build them. You think he can accommodate a small group?

Thats too bad but it's okay, realistically it's a small shop so not a ton of room anyways especially if he got projects going on.

But Shannon tell him to load up a couple bikes to park at the place and I'm sure he sold a lot of shirts last year so tell him to bring up some swag to sell to us!

Will do. I'll mention the bikes, but I've talked him into being the chase vehicle for Saturday, because his trailer will hold more bikes than mine.So I don't know if he would want new bikes sitting around out there while we're gone

Darn it.

Oh well, that's the way things go and we'll just have to adjust. So, I'll be riding Sat vice Friday. It'll still be a great time. Maybe, I'll have to bring some guns to shoot Friday!

remember Saturday is over to the McClouds.

I'm sure some folks will go for a ride Friday. Maybe Harry can help advise a short route for folks just to get out for a few hours on Friday since we are in his neighborhood.

I might be interested in a ride early Friday then relax at the lodge. Hell I'm just excited to see everyone!
