Read through the forums, I know some models ya have to remove battery tray, exhaust, pulley etc. There are many posts about starter removal Boss.Help! Suggestions please. I can’t get old starter out by going between frame and pulley.
I pulled exhaust, belt and pulley cover, starter bolts, wires……all very easy. I have the million page shop manual but there is no mention of starter removal. I called BDM parts counter. Tim is awesome. He checked with a tech and immediately called back. Tech said no need to pull belt. He said it’s snug but definitely can slide starter straight out. I tried gently for a half hour. Analyzed the crap out of it. So close but I say it’s just barely too tight. I’ll research here as you suggest but I’m guessing I’ll have to loosen battery tray so I can get starter out by lifting it up and over the belt/pulley. I've never removed a starter from 2010 K9, but, I'm sure the info is on the site.
For anyone that may ever need to read this, the starter removal was not extremely painful on the 2010 K-9. Since it wouldn’t fit by the frame (barely) while trying to pull it straight out, I removed battery and only had to unbolt and lift up the battery tray slightly in order to lift and roll and twist the starter up and over the transmission. I kept the tranny covered so as not to scratch the chrome. It was tight but it came out nicely. If someone doesn't respond to this post, another great resource would be Curtis out at Wildsteed Worxs in CA.
Great guy and willing to share information. I'm sure he has removed a few starters from K9 in his travels. His address and information is also posted on the homepage Bud.
Curtis can also hook you up if you need any parts as well. Great service!
