I purchased a 2010 Bulldog Bagger last year and I’ve decided to upgrade the speaker & stereo receiver with something that’ll hook up to my cell phone. Does anyone have detailed instructions on removing the fairing to access the stock alpine stereo receiver and speakers?

Does the existing stereo have an AUX input jack -- you could either plug phone in directly or buy a bluetooth reciever that connects to the aux jack -- no disassembly required and usually cheaper than a new stereo.

Also if you need any help removing the fairing, which type of speakers sound the best, weather proof amps, wiring tips for an amp or if you'd like any ideas on how to change out anything on the bagger hit me up. There are several head units that will fit the factory inner fairing to replace the Alpine unit that is so outdated.

I decided to go with a different stereo on the bagger and opted for a Sony XAV-AX8000 and Polk Audio speakers. The receiver is pretty unique I haven't seen anything like it before. Its IP68-rated Waterproof, comes with a 3 year warranty, and fits in a single din stereo slot. I've started removing the front fairing but it doesn't seem like I've loosened all the fasteners yet. Around the headlight it feels like there's a fastener still holding the fairing. I'm just not able to see it.

Remove your headlight, look up at the top of the fairing you will see a bolt, use a 7/16 wrench to remove it, its the same as the 2 other bolts you removed next to the fork tubes that mount it to the metal bar. don't forget your 2 Allen bolts in front of your grips kind of in that little hole. those actually go thru the inner fairing and the outer fairing into a nut, kind of a pain in the ass to get it all lined up when going back together. and of course the 4 allen bolts that hold your windshield on.

I think you made good choices in what you bought, the only thing is you didn't do the research before buying. Now the only problem I can see with your radio is the watts pre channel output and its not bridgeable.

  • CEA Rated Dynamic Reality Amp 20W x 4 RMS
now the factory alpine output rating: (from the first ride article of the bagger)

An Alpine marine-grade stereo uses twin 55-watt, 5 1/4″ speakers and is iPod-, Bluetooth- and SAT Radio-ready. A small cubby space is provided near a retractable cable to house your iPod.

So the alpine is 55w per channel and was a 2 channel radio

the radio you bought won't be as loud as the factory radio, so you will need an amp to be able to hear them and bring your speakers to life.
And without knowing which speakers and just shooting in the dark their website says that their 5.25 inch speakers are:

  • Continuous Power Handling100W
  • Peak Power Handling300W
So you'll need an amp that has between 45 and 120 watts continuous power per channel. You can use the gain control to turn it up or down as needed for power output. I think mine is 75 watt pre channel and bridgeable to create 150 watt continuous power to 2 channels, which is how i have mine set up.

i use to install car stereos for a living back years ago but still install stuff for friends and myself and whoever needs help doing so. If you need anything as far as wiring and if you do buy an amp how to hook it up and run the wires for it and where to mount it just let me know.

Thank you for the directions on removing the front fairing. I got the front fairing removed & it looks like it's going to be tricky getting the fairing to line back up perfect. I’ll look into getting an amp so my system is properly powered I'll probably reach out about getting the amp hooked up.
