2010 BD Chopper

No RoadMax for me I had one in my BMC and it locked up with 80 miles on it. The second one they put in lasted over 12000 miles and then I sold the bike. I would pay the extra money for a Baker. But they are trying to keep costs down. A RoadMax would keep me from buying the bike.

As long as they "still build the bikes here in our country"??? Hell, until 2008 Honda built ALL their BIG Bikes here in the US, and got almost all of their parts from local vendors and manufacturers. The Goldwing, the VTX, etc... but all you hear is "rice" or cheap Jap bike... but now it seems that if we get our parts from Taiwan, Korea or any place else it's ok, as long as they "assembled" in the U.S.

As for myself, I've owned Honda's my entire life and have always loved them, very reliable, good rides. But I went with the BD due to looks, Honda moving manufacturing out of country and style. Now that I'm on an "American" bike, I want it to remain "American". I don't know where Roadmax is built, if its Korean, I really don't want it. I do know where Baker is built...

With the economic problems our country is having, I personally am boycotting none American made products, not all of them, but specifically I try to NOT buy anything that says "Made in China".... I'll spend an extra couple $$ to get the U.S. made equivelant. :flag:

Like everyone else says... just my $.02

I definitely like it.:2thumbs: Dumping the ehc and the proprietary hand controls and pegs will be great for the customers. I would like to see a larger rear tire though.:job:

Great move to survive BDM !!!!!!!:):):)

Does anybody know, if the new bike is being shown in Daytona this month ? Any info Ray ?
Good question. I'll find out and post it here later. :D

Looks great. Glad to see Big Dog coming back with production!!!!!!! I guess I missed it, but where is the price?
It was in the other thread but will list for $21,000 :2thumbs:

Overall I think there are many positives to this new addition to the Chopper line. While I like the BDM primary and have not had any issues with my transmission, I would rather have the ability to choose from many more aftermarket parts when it came to grips, levers, mirrors, footpegs, etc., rather than be held hostage of a limited choice and high prices due to proprietary parts. And if the cost of the bike overall is substantially reduced, bringing in more dog owners, then it is a good situation.

Getting rid of the BDM hand controls and primary was the best thing they could do. They may not be as nice as the BDM stuff, but for a few hundred bucks you can very easily put whatever you want on there, and the whole electrical system will be trouble free. Don't know much about the Roadmax trannys, never messed with one. I've put in a few Ultimas and they have been trouble free. Only tranny I ever personally heard of blowing up was a Jims.

Looks good! BD made a great decision to get a lower priced bike out into the market. Now they can probably pull some business away from Honda, Kawasaki, and other manufacturers. Hopefully this helps them survive the current economy.

I have always been a 'Buy American' man. Where there is not a viable option. All my life.

I will say however that BDM is adapting to the economic conditions and is in survival mode as is most of the world is, as opposed to those that would not adapt and are no longer in business.

This chopper is an lower priced option to the rest of the lineup and thus some parts will be from elsewhere to keep costs down.

All the testing I have seen the factory put this trans thru looks very promising for these scoots.

In the past this trans may of not held up in your application, but Ford and all the American Autos used to also have the same distinction. The perception now is that the American Autos are as good or better than their jap counterparts. Point is, everything is getting better and better and this roadmax trans has been thru some intense R&D and it is holding up quite well.

The new Choppa is at a lower price point than the rest and to do so, costs needed to be trimmed. They did so using the very best parts for a bike in this price range.

The 2010 BDM Chopper will be a big hit in America.

Very Nice:2thumbs: Building something like this should do very well:2thumbs: KnotSo is correct about the motor. Very reliable, and powerful power plant. If I could choose between a 107", 111" or 117" I would go with a 107". That 107" runs even better, just my opinion.
Not bashing Baker or BDM, so don't take this that way, but... that Korean made Roadmax Transmission is a very reliable upgrade. It is around $1000 new and seems to hold up a lot longer than the Baker. I have only seen a few problems with these in the AIH motorcycles. Keep in mind, look at KIA and Hyundai cars, made in Korea and they are becoming very reliable and seem to be taking over the US. We now even have a factory here in the US to help support that. Don't get me wrong, I am all for American made products:flag:.. But also for cost savings as well. If you get cost savings, reliability, and still have the great looks , I'm all for it:2thumbs: As log as they keep building the bikes here in our country:2thumbs:
That's my 2 cents:D
I agree with most of this, but i'm a UAW member (Ford) and a buy American when you can, kinda guy.

Wonder if that Roadmax is a 5 speed or 6. If it comes from overseas then I can see it being a 5 speed and with 111 engine rpms are going to be high. Thats the only thingthat I dislike about it, oh and also dosn't have the 300 tire. I am with everyone else though, keep it american:flag::2thumbs:

It's a 6spd. Not overdrive, but has 6 speeds. Correct??

I wonder why it took BDM so long to ditch the EHC? I'm on my third one and just finished a computer-bypass wiring harness to carry with me in case the computer crashes again. I like the standard controls and HD compatibility too. My fear for getting a new BD is that the company might fold and parts would dry up. Wonder if they'll have upgrades like polished motor, etc? Smart move....

I didn't see a price on this Chopper???.....I hope BDM is not getting cheezy as far as the new things there doing to it.....by trying to compete with Honda fury, Yamaha intruder, and Victory bikes....hope they stay with the heavy duty components and feel of there bikes...just a thought not trying to be negative....Just curious...

It is $21,000.00

I like it and it makes very good sense in today's economy to have an entry level cost approach to owning a BDM.
Good Move! :2thumbs:

EHC'less? :eek::eek::eek:

Thank God! :2thumbs: let's all dance a jig! :willy_nilly:
:2thumbs::lol::lol::lol:

Now I'm wondering if BDM is going in the direction of "EHC'less" for all of the future model BDMs?

If so, those of us that still have EHCs in our bikes, will have "Collectors Bikes"!....:2thumbs:

$21g is a nice starting point, but as with other "manufactured" customs, you start adding polished this, upgraded paint, ect....it'll add up FAST.

I added over $8600 of upgrades to my AIH bike when I ordered it in '04.

Some question the Roadmax tranny's, they'll hold up just fine. There have been isolated issues with them, but the same can be said for Baker, Jims, ect.

I'll bet the lack of EHC is for cost savings and not an "upgrade"...

I'm also wondering if that little relay/fuse box could be adapted to models that do have an EHC?

I'll bet the lack of an EHC is an effort to eliminiate the #1 warranty issue with the product, and therefore trim warranty claims and expenses. Face it...it has been the "albatross" of BDM for far too long.

Furthermore...do not place too much faith in the BAKER tranny...do a search on this forum and you will find many an instace of mainshaft failures that cost several owners a pretty penny to resolve. They have not been perfect.

When in doubt buy American! :flag:
When informed...buy what actually works.:2thumbs:
