Received my new to me bike yesterday. 2008 Mastiff with 1495 miles on it. Bike is in mint condition, was obviously kept in climate control conditions over most of it's life but not used much. I was able to take it for a quick ride yesterday and noticed that it starts, idles and runs fine at low RPM's but will tend to "die out" when throttle is given over approx. 3000 RPM. Also, after short ride, noticed that neutral is hard to fine unless engine is stopped and it seems to creep when throttle is given at idle even with clutch lever fully retracted. I assume the throttle cables will need to be adjusted because they seem to be loose and have lots of play at the bars. I plan on changing all fluids-engine, primary and tranny but I guess I will also have to adjust the clutch and throttle cables also. They give rain over the next week, guess I will be busy.

Change of location for the bike? (altitude is a factor) Carburetor (maybe jets too) needs to be adjusted. Search the Forum for "jetting", "Adjusting Carburetor", etc. plenty of "How To" around. Start here: http://www.bigdogbiker.com/forums/how/4943-how-adjust-your-carb-check-jetting.html

Forgot to mention b4... if you have an after market Air Cleaner installed on your Bike, you want to make sure the "Bowl Vent Plug" is removed from your Carb. This you can see it in the Tuning Guide. It does helps to get rid of that Dead Spot when reaching 2700-3000 Revs. (the change over from Inter to Main Jets)

Make sure you change out the plugs and gas. That could be reason for your "die out" issue. Secondly even with perfect clutch adjustment these bikes could be hard to find neutral. You just have to get comfortable with the bike and how and when to go to neutral. Lastly you should have some play in your throttle cable. In the event of hitting a hard bump its forgiving on the throttle. My throttle has play and my neutral can be hard to find for anyone not familiar with big dogs. I feel my bike is dialed in to where it needs to be. My whole point in saying all this is maybe it doesn't need some of these adjustments. Although I never had creeping issues. Either way good luck with your new scoot. I love my 08 Mastiff just as much as the day I got it.

i can't believe everybody missed the obvious problem, it still has the reflectors on it!!!!!!! and as stated earlier, change out the plugs while you are at it.

I would dump the fuel and run it for a bit even if its in town, then do a FULL "go thru" on it, (carb, push rods, grease the clutch rod and adjust, oil cables, oil and filter, tire pressure) thats just me tho!!
