2007 EFI Bulldog not idling

I had an issue where the dog would not idle when cold. I looked into the EFI controller software and seen where it thought the bike was 230 degrees when it was cold. I unplugged the Head Temperature Sensor and it would idle then and trip the engine code light. Followed the diagnostic troubleshooting flow chart for checking the sensor. It had 5 vdc across the backbone wiring harness connector which is good. I ohm-ed the sensor from pin A to the sensor body and it would show between megs ohms and if you moved the wires around to 150K. The 150K ohms translates to about 122 celsius or 230 degrees. I ordered anew head temp sensor and all is back to normal. Idles like a kitten and smokes the tire at will. It sure is nice being able to look at you EFI controller to see what is going on without having to go to a dealer or them calling Big Dog Headquarters. The Thundermax wide band ECU is the shit, self tuning and everything at your finger tips. Troubleshoot, change out components and it will learn on its own. Write it to the base map if you are happy. Zippers engineers are more than happy to help you with your map or changes if needed. I am not sure I can say the same about BDM bending over to help you EFI guys.....

Guess I should have read your other posts before I asked if you got it fixed in the EHC thread. Glad you got it working. BDM had some issues with these sensors for guys riding in parade duty and over heating these things. funny thing is your did not exibit the same symptoms and I know from our talks that you haven't got it hot. You may see if BDM is interested in seeing that sensor for a possible failure analysis. Tell them you will send them the sensor if they send you the name of the faring manufacturer :)

Yea,
Good idea...
They have never emailed about the fairing either if they would or not. Kinda typical for them I guess. Tell you one thing and then let you wonder...
I opened the sensor by pulling up the rubber boot in it out or whatever it is and it was rusted inside like it has had water in it. I still got it on the table and I am going to look to see if I can purchase another on from somewhere else in case you ever needed one in a pinch on the road. I also ordered a spare Crank Position Sensor to put in my emergency travel bag. I know what will happen when it gives up the ghost. I will get a spare head temp sensor as well to go in the bag.
After the Toy Run this weekend I will contact Jason about going to the one piece Thundermax ECM seeing how I have room now.
