Rode 500 miles this weekend. Tach died, speedo died, turnsignal work. When I tried to turn it off with the key it kept running. Is thei related to the EHC? I need a electrical diagram.

Could be a lot of things, but since your key switch is an obvious problem I'd start there. You can unplug it from the harness behind the coil mount. It's a small JST connector. The key switch is only two wires, so any two connector switch will work. I installed a hidden switch on my 06 K9 and 06 Mastiff a few months ago: http://bigdogbiker.com/threads/install-ignition-switch.79998/

you could also go to tractor supply and get a new key switch made for a 9N Ford (tractor) but it fits in the hole then splice the two wires that you'll cut off the back of your current key switch that way you still have a key. On mine I left the key switch there even though it's disconnected so it looks like you'd need a key. Get into the link for the thread above and you'll see the backside of the coil and what I'm talking about.

Once you get that sorted then you can start chasing what else might be the issue.

Try removing your key switch and jumping in a toggle switch, if it solves your problem replace your key switch. DOC's has stock BDM switches, I got one last year, very good quality.

I got up the nerve to put the required torque on the gas tank mount to get the tank off. It's not the key switch. The tach and speed don't work but the oil pressure and neutral indicators do. The EHC module looks to be original 2006 part made on 6/21/06. Part Number is 171-000002-00. Is this a known bad EHC? It has a strange quirk that if you hit the rev limiter the bike shuts down until I hit the run button... It requires rebooting frequently to get the gauges to work. Any suggestions or insight are appreciated.

I'm a bit confused...you needed nerves to apply some muscle on a bolt but Hitting the rev limiter at 6200RPM obviously more than once is no problem? It's shutting down cause it doesn't like being up that high...lol

How many times you hit that revlimiter? These bikes aren't Honda's...

U need to replace 7r switch no doubt and go from there.. it may not be the issue, but if it ain't shutting down, it ain't working.. period.. it gives and takes power..
Here is something that might help the other issues

It's happened two or three times. It's not like the tach is any value at shift points. Is that the proper operation? I read that if you shift up and the rpm returns to normal operation, the motor will continue. It doesn't work that way. PS- I wasn't referring to a bolt. It's a rubber mounting bracket that is wedged into the tank. This is my first season with the Big Dog, I'm use to a Buell 1125R.

It should continue but with that said these engines are not designed for high RPM.

I shift at 3500'ish RPM. If I'm really goosing it might push 4500 but hey that's me. I'm in no rush. I've never even seen Red lights on my tach I couldn't even tell ya if they work.

I spoke to Chris at BDM. Bottom line is I ordered a RIP version one since my tank is already off and they had one in stock. I gotta git her right and ready. In two weeks she's going to be in a juryed bike show at the General Motors Tech Center in Warren Mi. :chopper:

Chris is a good guy, we had the privilege of throwing a few back with him a few weeks ago and seems to be a solid honest good guy.

My new RIP kit arrived today. It didn't come with any documentation so the only reference I can find is the Youtube video showing the kit being installed on a new K9. The video doesn't mention the 40 amp breaker and is quite different than my 06 Mastiff. I've looked at and don't see how to remount the breaker without drilling holes. If anyone has done this installation please let me know what the BDM solution is for the breaker. Everything else seems straight forward ....so far

It takes a lot to do it with a 3/8" ratchet, but I have found if you use a 1/2" breaker bar with a 3/8" adapter you can turn and control the force it takes to turn it much easier.
