THE FOLLOWING IS A PM FROM SICS6 "Midwest I was wondering which woods cam do you have? W6hf? And did you keep your tp boxes and rollers? If you don't mind posting the reply on the thread you posted on a couple days ago? I live in Illinois and am currently getting similar mods done to my 06 k9. Also what intake are you running? Much appreciated."

sics6, looking at my invoice the cam is the W9F. I've heard great things on the W6HF, however, I took the advice of the builder on which one they had experience and good results with.
Rocker boxes. I may get flamed over this so I ask that no one take offense to my decision. The TPs and rockers are still on the motor. Tim, at Gateway, and I had repeated conversations about switching the TPs to the S&S version. He has 100% confidence in the TPs after they complete their work on them, e.g. valve guides and something else I can't remember. Anyhow, he said he would switch to the S&S version if I insisted. I asked him "what would you do?", he said he would leave the TP's on his own bike. Springs were changed to 660's. You may see early in this thread where I THOUGHT I was running the S&S rocker boxes. Long story short - I was out of town, asked my wife if she could have a look, I explained my directions poorly, and she came up with "6"...no fault to her, it was my mistake.
Induction. The intake manifold and carb (S&S G) both are from a 04' BDM Chopper I had. Gateway Bigdog did some work on the carb for me (ThunderJet and something else, I forget) before the 06' K-9 came along. During the trade for the 06' I asked if they would let me exchange my modified 04' carb for the new 06' carb, they agreed. Air intake is a D&M.
Heads and cylinders. I think he said .030 on the heads, zero deck on the cylinders. As mentioned above, compression is up. I commonly run a 106/90 octane mixture and haven't been in position where I ran staight 90, or less. Also, I carry octane booster from my local.
Longevity. I have just over 1000 miles on the build so TP reliability could still be questioned. The valvetrain pre-build was noisy, very noisy. The valvetrain now is as quiet as my 120r Street Glide...so, no complaints up to now...also, no leaks. As many have mentioned, if I experience a drop of oil from the rocker boxes or covers or begin to hear the old valvetrain chatter, I'm switching to S&S.

Midwest,I think I'm going your rout. I love power! I'm running a d&m spike air filter and I would like to keep it. Were you able to keep it with this build(will it support the power gains)? How much did everything cost you, minus the pipes? Thanx for the info.

It was never mentioned to change out the air intake so I'm assuming it provides sufficient air. IF a higher flow intake made another XX-amount hp/tq, AND I was concerned about my ET's at the track, I would change it out. I'm not putting this bike on the track so I will continue to use the D&M....looks are good, functions in the rain, no complaints. If anyone has experience with the D&M not providing adequate air, would you please advise here?
Total price. I believe the shop labels my build as their stage 3. The total was just over $2500 with dyno time.
Clubba, Tim and I have discussed over the years doing a build like this. I've resisted and talked cams & ignition with him. He never pressured the Stage 3 build, however, always reminded me of the option. I asked if he had a shop bike with their stage 3 build, he did. I asked to take it for a ride, he acknowledged, and the deal was done on my return with their shop bike...and their shop mule was a build from 5 years ago with a 600 cam, yet I was impressed with it. Looking back, I should have opted for their stage 3 build years ago.
Hope this helps in your decision.
V/R,
Corey

Call S@S

I've been an S@S dealer since 1998. Call them at 866-244-2673. Tech is line 2 and give them your serial no. off your cases. They can tell you what you got and the best way to modify it. I have 2 117s, the Big Dog version and the S@S version. It's nite and day difference. The S@S is 10.2 compression with a 600 cam G carb with the big valve heads. i also have had a 113 that had 40000 hard miles onii it before we rebuilt it. Ane a 124 thats at 26000 miles. Run a oil cooler and keep the timing around 28 degrees and 6500 RPMS and it will last a long time. I change lifters at 20000 miles.

Not so sure about that.... I did call (email) them several timestrying to ascertain what stock cam was in my K9... sometimes they said it was a 569, other times a 546... Ker, phoned them for me and he was told my engine had a 546...

Well, when I did open it up to install the 585 there was a 569!

Neither they could tell me if it had travel limiters in my lifters.... those engines were shipped to Big Dog and then there they assembled the motors with whatever they wanted to.

This is true, up till 2008. For whatever reason, BDM felt it was better to assemble in house rather than buy crate motors from S&S. Not sure how that was cost effective having 15 guy building motors and then having to deal with the warranty...pretty sure that's why they changed at the end of 2007 and started buying crate motors from S&S.

Thanks for the correction You guys are right on about S@S only knowing on engines they built.. Both Dogs i have had have been 07s. SS tech told me in 07 the engines were from them, is that correct or when was the changeover? franco how did the 585 work? In a stock low compression BD i would think that would be the best choice. Am I correct to assume my 07 has the 546 cam. Now I will be calling them.
