2006 Big Dog K9 Project Bike

Man,

Riding another 90 miles after a wreck that totalled it ? Have you posted that story ?

Gotta hear that.........

Just saw another K9 listed. https://www.copart.com/lot/53820649 - bid is only $25 for this one at the Texas facility.

Looks pretty rough though. I would really hate to hear the story on that one.........front end is totally destroyed.........
Not to rain on this guys story at all, but couple years back a buddy and I went from TN and traveled south then straight west. Up to mid. Country back to TN. in Louisiana, my buddy laid his bike down badly. It was a soft tail.. from there we put on another 1,500 miles in a course of 5 days. His pegs were bent. Handle bars bent. It was rough.

i actually was bidding on this bike, I got out bidded in the last 10 minutes and lost the bike to someone else. When I was bidding on it it said pure sell I didn't know they went and changed it, maybe I'll get another chance at it?? I was actually interested to fix it up after having paid an inspector go out and see the bike for me. Hate I missed out on it, if I had it and you were interested in buying it back I definitely would have sold it to you for what I had in it from buying it. But if not I would have fixed it up and rode it myself. I have a Mastiff and an anniversary bagger, just need a chopper style to add to my dog pound.

I doubt you will get another chance since it is now listed on Copart as "Lot Sold"

Like I said initially, was a tough decision which took me about 6 weeks to decide whether to keep it or let it go to auction.

I have all of the insurance pictures they took, in addition to their estimate on the repairs. Eric (HDM) also sent 2 itemized parts list with prices of the needed replacement parts.

Curious to know what your bid was to see how close it was to what the insurance company would sell it back to me?

I saw auctions. The motorcycle was sold for $ 6,200. plus copart costs.
Thanks…. I appreciate the information..... Any ball park guesses as to how much the Copart costs would be? Progressive Insurance was going to charge me $4,950.00 if I kept it and it would not have had a salvage title either. I don't think that is the case for the "new" owner?

Update to close this chapter.... Since my wreck in October 2019, I did a lot of soul searching to determine where I was heading in the future. Would I quit riding, just stick with my 2008 Big Bear Chopper Sled Pro Street 300 or keep the Sled and search for a new ride?

Decided to keep the Sled and get something a little more conducive to longer trips and additional riding comfort moving forward so I added this Indian Chieftain Limited to the garage and now have the best of both worlds. Don't get me wrong, I do and will continue to miss the K9 tremendously since I had it 13+ years and 33K+ miles of smiles and great memories! Loved that bike and the brand!

Lastly, on the K9, not sure what the buyer's intent is and whether he will keep it or fix and flip. If it resurfaces for sale and anyone interested needs any information, I have all of the documentation since new regarding maintenance, service, recalls completed, etc. and would be more than happy to share that. Also, not sure how the mileage might be represented since the Copart listing showed 0 miles (actual 33K+) and a salvage title?

I have contemplated those same thoughts. Most of my friends now have baggers, and would be nice on certain days and trips. However I love my Mastiff and will always have and prefer it.

On a second note I REALLY like your sled a lot. Paint is awesome too.
If you ever decide to sell please give me a shot at it.

Good deal! At least you are staying in the saddle. Stick around and keep sharing your new travels on your Indian! I don't think we would mind!

Thanks JJ!!! I always said the same about my K9, that I would always have it however, the accident made me rethink that position and I believe my logic was that although it could be repaired, I would always know and it would never be the same as it was when I purchased it new with just a few miles on it 14 years ago.

Regarding the Sled, I will definitely keep you in mind! At this point I want to have two (2) completely different rides with the bagger (to do more long trips) and the Sled for the local one day rides. Feel free to hit me up as well occasionally since you never know if you might catch me at a time when I am ready to sell. Thanks!

Thanks Eric..... and once again thanks for the assistance in providing the detailed price lists for the parts needed to repair the K9!

Glad you closed this chapter. I think the SLED is the most beautiful bike on the road. I'm anxious to see how much you ride the bagger vs the chopper on normal day trips.

Thanks Brent! I too am curious as to how the split between the Sled and Indian will be.
