2005 Ridgeback Dakota Digital Questions and Problems....

Just got this bike and a New Dakota Digital was installed prior to me receiving it, model: BD-140

2005 Ridgeback....

I have done some reading on them here on this forum and googling it.....but can't seem to find the answer.

Bike has original EHC.

Questions I have are:

Is it normal that when the key is turned to second position that the high beam is on then automatically turns off (I hear a click)?

Is it normal that no other lights (self check?) come on? As in Oil light etc? even when key is on 1st turn?

What IS working fine are:
Turn signals, Speedometer, mileage indicator, High/low beam indicator.

Problems:
RPMs don't work. All the lights work, but even when sitting in the garage, just with the key on-not started, the RPM indicator goes up to 3-4k, then pegs out, then goes down to one, flashes goes off, then nothing. Also while riding, same issue, randomly comes on, but RPMs/indicator has no rhyme or reason? There is no standard pattern to this....

Also, my Neutral light doesn't work at all, neutral safety switch is working fine.

Thanks for any advice for a NEWBIE to the Big Dog world....

And have to say, this bike is BAD ASS!!!!:2thumbs:

OOPS! This actually has the WP374 kit installed, not the original EHC. I'm thinking I have a faulty ground somewhere, please correct me if I'm wrong, or point me as to which ground if you know? Oil pressure and neutral LEDs are on the ground side of the circuit correct? Still doesn't explain the random TACH....

Thanks for any info....

Since this has the WirePlus, I'm comparing the two diagrams for the wiring. I found two wires that are stripped but not connected, could have been connected...mainly the GREEN wire coming from A5 off the three wire BD plug and a loose, stripped Yellow wire, which comes from the Main wiring harness, which I believe goes to B47...my only issue is I don't want to FRY something, it seems to me looking at the BD Wiring Diagram, these should go together....am I correct?

So, just updating that I figured it ALL out...hope this helps someone somewhere.....whoever installed this wire kit was a lazy SOB...according to the wire plus instructions found here (always helps if you read everything through..instead of skimming it while drinking beer...):

http://www.wire-plus.com/assets/images/bigdog/WP374installmanualallyears.pdf

The guy who installed it didn't do, OR forgot to do steps 34,36,37 on page 7. My neutral light/safety switch wires were not butt spliced, my oil sender and pressure wires were not butt spliced and my tach wires were NOT butt spliced (Green and Yellow)......

Thanks for the KUDOS but HA!Spoke too soon. So after spending most of the day pulling out the WP and redoing it and besides having 3 grounds not even connected, I have everything toned and continuity checked. All is working now and wired correctly EXCEPT: Neutral light on speedo...(checked continuity from speedo down to switch and all good-plugged ground in from switch that wasn't even connected to chassis ground) read somewhere there is a white wire to the trans that could make it either stay on or off all the time, is that correct? Or could the switch just be faulty? Where would said white wire be?

I'm having fun....thanks again Big Doggers.....

Switch is working correctly. Neutral it's dead short, in gear it is open......and my connector was hard to get off....LOL

So, this notorious white wire......according to this post here and the nice picture included:

http://www.bigdogbiker.com/forums/technical/11422-neutral-light-not-working.html

It seems I should have a white wire....however, attached PIC of what mine actually looks like......did previous owner get wrong wiring kit??? What do you guys think??? The other end of the harness also does NOT have a white wire.....

If I am missing the white wire...where does it go to?

Thanks and HAPPY EASTER!!!!

after reading the service manual, my 05 only has the two wires. After double checking everything, and re-reading the WP schematic and installation book, and looking at the ORIGINAL wiring diagram for the Ridgeback...I'm at a loss...not that the light on a brand new speedo could be bad...LOL

Any further suggestions would be appreciated.....

Thanks,

Marky

No. unless there is something hooked up wrong.

That circuit goes from the speedo to the switch to ground.

You said you had continuity from speedo to switch, but do you have 12v at switch?

Do you have continuity from ground wire at switch to negative side of battery?

bearman, thanks for answering.

I found the schematic for 05 and you're right the 'white' wire is no longer needed or used as of 2005.

Continuity from ground on plug to batt is good (I went out and checked as soon as I got your post)

Again, continuity from back of plug from speedo TO plug itself is good and the switch is working as well (as noted above)

the ONE thing I do NOT have is 12v at the switch plug with the key on and bike started...any ideas?

Just an update and BUMP...may help others.

Since I was bored today, decided to check all my wiring for my neutral light again.

Continuity to (-) negative terminal from black wire on switch-GOOD

Continuity from GREEN wire on switch to back of tach ring-GOOD.

Resistance on actual switch in neutral and in gear-GOOD.

But still didn't have a damn neutral light....soooo......

Upon further inspection, found corrosion INSIDE tach ring....see pic....cleaned it with 99% alcohol....air dried it-Put it back together...and...VOILA! Working...

So, if you've checked everything, and all comes back good...look for a little water/corrosion damage on the tach ring...and it may fix some other issues as well...

Cheers...

Just noticed this thread and was about to ask you to let the water out from speedo! I had all the idiot lights lightning and underwater after riding in rain... Now everything is full of grease and working good...
