2005 DT Chopper Big Radius New Decel Popping

My bike mostly sits on a tender since I have been TDY so often over the last couple of years. Mileage is just over 5K.

I noticed that recently I am experiencing consistent decel popping when I let off of the throttle. The popping occurs even with releasing from mild revving (2500-3000 RPM). I tried tightening up the exhaust and the intake nuts, and although seemed to get some tightening , I still having the decel popping.

Honestly I do remember occasional decel popping if I took off before the bike was fully warmed up, but once warmed up, I never had anymore popping.

Any suggestions or recommendations are appreciated?

Hey Mike

I have the same bike and mine has popped since I've owned it. If it's not suppose to I guess I have a problem as well. Heck I've gotten use to it and would probably miss the noise if it was gone:lol:

RIDE IT HARD!!!
Decel popping is usually caused by air getting into the exhaust and igniting with the unburnt fuel. Make sure all gaskets are good. All nuts and clamps are tight. And all unused vacume ports are plugged. Intake gaskets and nuts. Carb gaskets and nuts. Vacume ports on intake not being used plugged. And exhaust clamps tight and not leaking.

Fixed it and no more decel popping. Carb was not adjusted properly (too much fuel).

Closed accelerator pump, set rpms to 1K with bike fully warmed up. closed air/fuel screw and opened 1 1/2 turns then opened and closed until I found the sweet spot. Opened accelerator pump out 1 1/2 turns. Crisp throttle response all ranges, no hesitation, and no decel popping.
