2004 with 117

I searched the forum and couldn't find anything on this so I thought I would ask. Does anyone have an 04 with the 117. I know in 04 Big Dog was experimenting with the new 117 motor (I think it was 04.5) and then decided to go with it as a standard for 05. I am curious to hear about the problems with them. Any input?

the 117 was an option in 04 and some of the members on the forum do have an 04' with the 117.

The 04 117 option engine was different than the 05 production engine. Assembled by the factory, .600 cam, G carb, no restrictor plates, bigger valves, better top end oil flow....oh, you wanted to know of problems!

I like that it was factory assembled. For some reason I think I remember my friend that worked at BD said that the 04 117s were different than the 05s. Thanks for all the input. Still though, any problems?

There are ALOT of differences from 2004 to 2005.

In 05 they went to a shitty EPA cam, a E carb (over the G in 2004 & 2006+), they put in restrictor plates on intakes and exhaust ports (got rid of them aka back to norm in 2006), and they started putting TP rocker boxes on them too.

Most of the problems they created in 2005 they corrected in 2006.

Thanks again for the info. There is an 04 for sale close to me and I am thinking about making an offer. 1750miles on it, 3 hours from me.

i have an 04 with a 117. have had it for 1 month have 1k miles on it. 7k total. no problems so far other than i can't find where to drain the oil as the instructions in the thread, don't seem to apply to this model.
