good morning all. so i pulled my 2003 pitbull out of storage. went to crank her over, and just got a click. tried to jump her, and got the same result. at that point, everything worked. ie lights, diagnostics. just wouldnt start. figured the batt. was 5yrs old, it was time for a new one. got the new battery, tested it. made sure it had a full charge, installed it. now, i get nothing. no lights, no nothing. im at a loss. is there a fuse somewhere that may have blown? maybe a reset i havent found? ive had this bike since it was new. never had an issue like this. that in advance for the help.:flag:

If all your connections are good, I would start with the key switch. one side should have 12v and the other should have continuity to ground. Try jumping out (shorting) the two and see if you get anything. If you don't have 12v at the switch it is probably a broken wire near the battery. check that you have continuity between the negative side of the battery and the frame.
Oh,yeah, wiggle the EHC connectors.

When you were trying to jump start did you notice an electrical burning smell?
What is happening to you sounds very similar to what mine did. The EHC is located under the gas tank dash. You might have noticed a smell or even smoke coming from that area.

Chances are you missed a wire when you installed the battery. Happens all the time. As a tip pull all the wires off of one side in 1 group and put a zip tie through the ring terminals then repeat for other side.

thanks all.
have checked, and rechecked all the connections. seems like it should be such an easy fix.
didnt get any burning smell when i tried to jump it. made sure that i left the car off when i did this.
pulled the center off the gas tank, and disconnected the ehc. checked it for any burn marks. nothing.
put it back in, checked all connections again. nothing.
when i get home in the morning, im gonna check the ignition switch.
thanks again everyone for the ideas. ahhhhh this sucks! ready to ride!

Matthew,
You stated in your first post that you have no lights...meaning no power. That's not a starter module issue, that is an EHC issue. Everything electrical goes to and from the EHC.

The EHC is the most failure prone item on the BDM. Not start modules, not the battery, not the ignition switch and not connectors on the wiring harness.

Any weird electrical behavior is usually associated with parts of the EHC internal circuit giving up.

Good luck with your dignostic work. I suggest you order a Wire Plus kit.

What a nice day it was to rice the K-9 to work.

Later, Cor.

so here is my update. i replaced the start module. and got nothing no power still. said to myself."must be the ehc" found a new one online for 200, so said can't be a bad deal. that i was only out 300 dollars at this point. got the new ehc and put it in. and.................wait for it......................wait.................nothing. no power still. wtf; wel now what. looks like i have to do the thing that i hate the most is elecrical work........
well to get to the short of it, i had a broken pos. wire. it was apparently broken before, and when i changed the battery, and pulled on the wired alittle, it completely separated. so if you end up with no power at all, and you know the battery is good. trace all your wires first before you do anything else.

Thanks for the update. Glad you got it figured out. I guess you have some extra parts for sale huh? They should go quick. Or put em on the shelf in case you need them down the road. Now go ride!!!

I had an electrical issue last year and they are a pain! Mine ended up being a bad ground under the motor and my bike ended up with a new battery and starter it didn't need.
