If you don't disconnect the positive side of the battery and your messing with the ground to the bike and ehc could that short out the ehc?
The bike ground eye broke while riding. The ehc lights ground is in the same spot too. So, the ground was disconnecting and shutting the bike off in mid ride. Then we would come to a stop but could start it up and take off then rinse lather repeat. We found out that the eye to the ground cable on the bike broke in half and was not on all the way cause it to shut down. I am wondering if that and us trying to reconnect both the bike ground and ehc lights ground would cause it to short the ehc out on the lights. Because now my blinkers and brake lights do not work but everything else does. Not sure what you mean by messing with the ground but if the negative side of the battery ( ground ) is still connected to the battery and your playing with any component and cause it to arc the answer is possibly . When working on an electrical component ie. cleaning or replacing always remove the ground from the battery. If it's not connected there is no way the positive side of the Battery can cause an arc. and cause possible damage to you or the component.
An intermittent power connection to the EHC/TACH will create failures. The bike ground eye broke while riding. The ehc lights ground is in the same spot too. No emergencies eitherI am totally guessing at this point but I would recheck your new ground connection and make sure it's good. If no luck, I would disconnect the battery - side first then the + side. Then reseat the connector on top of the EHC. Clean it and apply fresh dielectric grease. Put it back together and reconnect the battery + side first then ground side . If that doesn't help and no one else has any ideas from there experience with these bikes I would take Mr Wrights suggestion and call Curtis .
Not for anything but I wonder if your emergency flashers work?
