2003 CLUTCH BASKET

Has anyone ever ran into this..(see pic) We stop to get gas an when my wife started up..the starter was dragging and when the bike started I heard a grinding sound coming from the primary... the it wouldn't go in to gear...and the starter wouldn't engage... trailer-ed it home...tore down to this.... bushing?maybe?... I found some copper shavings..... You can see buy the pics..the first one is the front/top, the chain is stuck into the inner primary..the second pic is the backside, were you can also see the chain digging into the inner primary... Oh this is on the 03 chopper...

Thanks fellers

looks to me like you lost all tension in the chain adjuster and the chain just jumped the teeth.

Chances are they were under torqued. See how the holes are all egged out? Those bolts came loose and moved around a bit before they broke. On the new one make sure you use RED loctite and the proper torque. They look to be 3/8-16 cap screws, 35 ft/lbs of torque. Make sure the new bolts don't protrude too far beyond the inside face of the ring gear, cut them down if necessary.

Well its fixed! I love working on these bikes! Clutch work better than it ever did and NO vibration... starter sounds 10 times better when it engages...
