Purchased a service manual off of Ebay for my bike (2002 Pitbull). In the electrical section it shows a starter module like pic below for my bike. I ddo not have this module. A late upgrade? Do I need this?

I have an 02 pitbull as well and mine does have this module. It sits on top of the battery. Thats about all of the info I can give you about it though.

If your bike is starting fine, you don't need it. If I'm not mistaken (which more than often I am) the purpose of the unit was to re-direct "juice" from lights and other functions to starter during starting.

It replaces the tiny starter relay in the EHC Works great, provides full battery power to the starter and eliminates some problematic connectors. A must have in my opinion. It also works great for compression releases. Inductive loads have historically been a problem in the electrical system and this takes care of that issue.

I put one on my 02 mastiff and it only lasted 2 months before it went out. I went back to relay and haven't had any problems.

Its not needed. Keep your batt. at full charge and bump the motor past the comp. stroke before laying into the starter button.
