Like Mike said, lube the shift linkage to make sure it's going all the way in gear. Drain the fluid and see if there is any medal in the oil. You may be due for a rebuild, or just drop an Ultima in there.

I agree with Jwooky. When I had my 900 Ninja my third gear would skip like a tooth was missing. I was told to check the dog ears. But I beat on her, and she never failed me. I dont beat on my chopper, so no issues of that nature. Keep us posted though please.

Speaking of shifter pawl adjustment i like to run it just a little to the left out of center...the reason i like doing that is because if your getting on the bike a little and shifting fast it helps not to miss a gear...down shifting isnt that critical but up shift is to me because i hate to miss a gear and spoil my moment of a little fun
