I am looking at buying a 2001 Mastiff, I just dont know the in's and out's of these cycles so any info would be greatly apprecatied

Anyone know if this bike came with dummy lights or anything that indicates fuel, oil pressure...

aside from rumor of electrical issues with this bike was there anything else they had wrong.. Recalls and such?

How far would someone expect to travel on a tank of gas in this DOG?

THANKS

Good choice! Like the profile of the 230 tire better than any other. Start looking for gas stations @ 100 miles. Hit reserve at 130. Do have dummy lights in console. Would definitely advise a rewire bypassing ehc for starting. Be aware this is the last year for which compression releases were not pre-drilled into heads. 2002 on you could install them without pulling heads. Not a big deal if you have a good battery and keep it on a tender and have a good starter. Also, if it hasn't been done yet, tank liner will need to be removed as they used crappy liners and big issue with failing. I did not reline mine and never had a problem. Also know that they used a lot more proprietary parts (Harley won't work) at that time. You can find them but have to look for 2002 and earlier parts/accessories. Good luck on purchase.

All that info is so helpful!!!!! Any possible chance you would have or know where to find a rewire diagram? Parts reference for replacements..
Oh and sounds strange but a pic of someone sitting on the 01 would be awesome. The one I'm looking to buy is a 6.5hr drive one way so I don't have the chance to sit and feel the siting position.
THANKS 01MASTIFF!!!

I had an 02 Mastiff.....only sold it a little while ago and miss it a lot. I had a broken swing arm just before it sold, good thing to check, just have a look where the shocks mount to.

I wish I had more money.
I'm not sure why the rewire. If it doesn't have electrical issues don't mess with it. A majority of the electrical issues didn't start until later.

So I filled the bike up today, looks like I got about 50 miles lol
That's not the problem I have a question about though.
So I reset the trip and I don't know how I did it but it displayed "auto" then "pulse" then "adjust". After that speedo doesn't work and if it does move it's on throttle not movement... lol when I got it home I shut it off now it says I'm doing 40 when I roll her and I travel 10th of a mile in about 5feet .... Please help

I agree with Frank, some pics would help? I've got an 01 Mastiff that the speedo died on. It was a VDO, and I believe to get to the settings menu you hold the trip set button down with the key off, turn the key on while holding the button down, then release the button and your settings should appear? I had to set mine to 60000 pulses to get an acuturate speed reading... I'm going from memory, but I believe VDO still has documentation on these? If Curtis at WSW sells replacements, I'm guessing he'd have documentaion too?
