2001 Mastiff VDO speedo problem

Maybe someone can point me the right direction, when I turn the key on the needles bumps slightly 2 or 3 times but does not do a full sweep nor does it show "test" in the odometer box , it stays blank until the needle stops twitching and then displays mileage, and it doesnt do anything when the bike is in motion. Any ideas???

It sounds like a connection problem. I would pull the dash off and check the connection at the bottom of the speedo,(small circuit board). Also check the connection from the trans speedo sensor to the wiring harness connector. Good luck.

Thanks I will try that today. The connection into the tranny, is that a small machined piece of aluminum on the far right side of transmission near the hookup for the nuetral indicator? Also heres something weird , my indicator lights never came on except the oil pressure light which stayed on constantly to test the lights themselves I pulled the plug off the pins and moved it sideways 1 pin location and put back on to see if now the nuetral light indicator would stay on all the time....to my surprise the nuetral light started working correctly as did the left turn indicator AND the oil press light works as designed! Freaky electrical black magic.
