my dealer said the start button had a different function once the engine is running... is this true, and what does it do?

after turning up the idle do i need to touch the idle mixture or anything else?

dont change mixture or anything else... does you bike have air ride?? if so.. check your manual...

If your ride has air ride then yes. The start button activates the air ride so you can use the High Low Beam buttons to inflate and deflate the air ride system. If you don't know how to adjust your carb then leave it alone. You can adjust the idle a bit but leave the rest alone.
If you don't have the pressure gauge attached to your rocker box or installed somewhere else then it is not likely that you have air ride.

I was gonna say it must be F'n cold the way your dressed.
And you did the right thing with your idle. As you probably already know now when your tach lights are flashing then you idle is too low. It should be right at 950 to 1050 but of course our tachs make it hard for us to get it that spot on.

I am constantly adjusting mine, I like it as low as I can get it for the cam lope. Guess I should just put a cam in it and get it over with!
