A few months ago if you asked me what im gonna do to my motor i would have told you .600 cam , a duel runner and blah blah blah .
But now i know better , after reading thread after thread on the 05 motor i now know you gota start from scratch because of the restricter plates , carb , smaller valves and so on .
Well yesterday i thought i had a handle on it and decided to send my E carb to xxx to get it bored to 42mm vs stock 39mm with the thunder jets and get the spacer kit to replace the restricter plates .
Now i read today that the motor is STILL restricted after those changes due to the manifold .

All i need is the first steps when it comes to the "TO DO'S" WITH THE 05 MOTOR .

Im not talking cams cuz thats a waste with tha thing restricted .

1. What else needs to be done to this engine .
2. Do i need to replace valves , get a head job , replace heads for tha thing not to be restricted
3. What manifold do i need if any .

 thx

I feel your pain Chad. From what I have been able to gather you need to decide where you want your power to be. In my case I live on an island with very few places to run balls out for more than a few minutes so I'm going with low end grunt rather than top speed. If you get it figured out please pass the "clue" along.

I PUT THE 600 CAM IN MY '07 BD CHOPPER, DID NOTHING ELSE TO IT, HAD IT DYNOED
5 MONTHS AGO CAME OUT TO BE 104HP WITH 118 FT. LBS OF TORQUE.
DID THE SAME THING WITH MY '05 CHOPPER, MADE A HUGE DIFFERENCE VS. STOCK.

First steps would be to be sure you have S&S rocker boxes, and S&S rocker arms.
A 117" motor NEEDS a minimum of a "G" carb, and manifold. You can bore your "E" to death, and you'll still be leaving some on the table.
The list goes on from there depending what you're looking for as a final result.

I have tp rocker box's and the e carb has been sent already.
Restricter plates and spacer kit will be took care of by the time the carb returns.

i can't remember you saying that you had TP boxes before. this if not good from a build standpoint. as John implied, this means you are starting with a handicap that you will not be able to overcome with any kind of H/P build like it sounds like you are heading toward. John knows his shit and is an expert in this field. you might want to throw out the anchor on this project and collect some more information before you end up with a project you will not be satisfied with like Toadstool.http://www.bigdogbiker.com/forums/motor/23154-ten-thousand-dollar-mistake.html

:2thumbs::2thumbs::2thumbs: that's exactly what I did, 600 cam too. You won't be disappointed... I'd stop on the E carb mod. I picked up a G carb and manifold off of Ebay cheap and actually sold my E carb for the same price to someone out of the country, got lucky I guess.

Ok, I found a G carb and manifold . QUESTION IS THIS, DO I SEND IT STRAIGHT TO XXX OR DO I BOLT IT ON AS IS??????

The size of the manifold is 410, what size do i need.

G manifold should be 410-2609 so you prob have the right one. You will also need the G insulator block (between carb and manifold).

The manifold with the E carb was not a EPA item, it was the restrictors between the manifold and the cylinder head. You can pull the restrictors out and put the E set up back with the spacers and you will have good low end torque. Raywoods got 75,000 miles on this set up but still runs out of gas. :D

I went with a 1 inch spacer by s&s instead of the standard insulator block. Supposedly it helps more air get in carb.

after you start makin some power you will want to change out the clutch with a bandit clutch.the factory one is junk, and will either break or slip

Gotcha, thx everybody. Carb should be here by Wednesday along with manifold .
after carb is installed what should be next, rocker box? ,

I wish I had more money.
With the little stuff you're doing the stock clutch should be alright. I've done quite a bit to mine and my stock clutch is fine.
