1999 ProSport Gas Tank

1999 ProSport and wondering:
I believe according to spec a 5 gallon tank
- from full I get about 100 miles into a ride and need to swith to reserve
- this is about 2 1/4 gallons of gas
- is this normal that it won't use more gas from the tank before I need to switch to reserve?

Any advice is appreciated.
Sincerely,
Don

That is about right, as at 100 miles I start looking for a station. The petcock sticks
up in tank a little too much, you could pull it out and cut the brass tube down a little
which will allow more fuel use before needing to switch to reserve.

It's possible the liner in the tank has been attacked by the ethanol in the gas today and has flaked off and when you gas level lowers it could be clogging the screen?

Are you filling both sides of the tank? The guy I bought mine from thought the left cap was a dummy cap so he only filled the right side. The crossover tube is small so a couple miles
down the road and he had two half full tanks.

Just came across this thread. Your ProSport should get 150 miles on 5 gal before reserve if cruising hard at 80 mph, more like 165 at 45 to 50 mph. It sounds like your right tank is clogged. My liner finally flaked a few years back on my 2000. I had it cleaned and replaced the cross flow tube and it was back to normal.

I'm learning about my 'Dog from all the great people on this site.
Was told left cap was a dummy which is wrong. Both tanks have liner coming off and floating.
Tanks coming off next week to be cleaned and re-lined.
I appreciate everyones' advice on here.
