Stack height 9 plate or 12 plate is 1.97"-1.98" new. Difference is thicker steels in the latter 2008+ models with 9 plate because the 12 plate steels tend to wear out prematurely.
What was probably a high warranty claim? Clutches....thicken up the steels in the later models and reduce the number of total plates. Otherwise it would have been a backwards move as the general thought process is more plates = more friction, right?. Oh let's change the ball & ramp to make it easier and market it with a new clutch pack! Just an opinion on my thought...something for folks to ponder over with their coffee this Sunday AM....
