So here's a question? What model years came with travel limiters on the lifters? When you adjusted your push rods, did you turn them 24 flats from zero lash? What was the result after waiting 15 minutes? Was the push rod loose? If yes, you don't have travel limiters and your adjusted correctly. Some will loosen the push rod 3 more flats to quiten the valve train noise.

Now if you waited 15 minutes and the push rod is still tight, you have limiters installed, then you need to loosen the push rod till theres little drag and you feel the valve spring release pressure, then at that point loosen the push rod 6 flats and your adjusted. Just saying to verify you dont have limiters installed...:D

1. Home he dose snot give two sheets about yo stink inn lick inn crack in the theory.

2. Buckle my shoe, you forgot to start with 1. I'm going to sneak up on your abstract and give you the angle of the dangle get ready, set?

3. Whathell are you doing? Well I was just pointing out how you have these techo no or tech you do some shitforbang parts is as same as the parts is parts theory.

4. Ass write. I rather write you a little note about this very theory is think about this. I have a pounding in the engine.
a. I have a spring that wants to pull my nuts right off me.
b. I have cam that lifts fast and drop my trousers just like that was my balls were attached when that happened.
c. I have a short [turtle] neck being the afterbirth that thing was trying to pull on.

5. Doesn't that sound like valve sink? Why, if you say it like that, yes I can see a valve sinking during its life cycle like follow it you mean?

6. Y for yes, that's what I would do. You don't mean place a hose in the spark plug hole and blow in it until I have valve lift? Y, yes again.

7. So you mean I should do this both ways is follow that lead on the url? Shithefuk I would. You mean, follow the valve drop? I sink that's what you said, but I better read this again.

8. No you don't. Step out of the way. Home he does not need a hose me feel. Oh don't tell me you have magic turtle hands running over rocksandshit you can set a valve without a feeler gauge and this is the same thing.

9. You know, you are a fuk'inn wize guy. Yeah, but my shit up against shore shit to shore, I shore can make a wave, gimme a magnet.

MMmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, square waves. ECU see watt eye sea? Flat for Flat, now tighten nut?

If it was tappet noise it wouldn't go away going downhill with throttle off would it?

Anyway if you are going to check your push rod adjustment again might as well clean your tappet screen.

Paul.

I tried every adjustment with my pushrods. 3 turns 3 1/2 turns and 4. I ended up with the result everytime. So I kept them at 4 turns. I went step by step according to the video on this site. I am very confident that the adjustment is correct. I did clean the tappet screen twice while doing the pushrod adjustment. What has me stumped the most is, the noise goes away going downhill off the throttle.

If it isn't the primary then maybe check mounting hardware of the running gear.
There is different-opposite load (for lack of better words) on motor and trany while engine braking and it might stop the rattle even if mounting bolts and nuts are loose.
I'm running out of ideas here.

Paul.

Maybe check all bolts and nuts.

My brain has been smoking too Pauly. Lol. Hopefully I get the dog back today and give the primary a shot.

Yep, think about it. When you give it gas you put strain on the drive train. The trans moves a little letting the clutch basket move a little. I'd bet anything it's in the primary. A lose bolt somewhere. check your trans bolts first and then the clutch. Sounds travel and it's hard to tell where they are coming from. If it were in the engine it would do it all the time.

Good luck.

Hey ya'll. It started to make a top end ticking noise.

Primary is at the top end and it ticks there. We all get in a circle PYL say ticking top end, it comes full circle, it's a ticking bottom end.

Do efi's have vent tube in the gas tanks?

Felt like an ass when I had my bike trailered from.laconia only to find it was a rattling vent tube. Only made noise under load.

Yeap..the lifter could be bad and not pumping up to hold the adjusted tolerances. That would be my first try and replace. I think you would need to pull the rocker covers and loosen the rockers to remove the pushrods but you need to check. There is a video out there somewhere on the Bigdog lifter adjust and maybe removal. S&S does make a special replacement pushrod that will allow you to cut out the old ones so you don't need to pull the rocker covers.

I'm not sure if I have a vent tube. I just put a new low fuel indicator sensor in the tank. Nothing was rolling around in there. All seemed good.

The dog is at Sussex Hills Cycle in New Jersey. They removed the rocker box cover, lifters, and pushrods. They all checked out good. They also did a compression test, and leak down test. All came back good. They checked the cam and cylinder walls. They were also good. He thinks its the connecting rod bearings. Hard to believe only with 6K on it.

If he thinks and dosent know for sure I would go get it and take it to another shop for a second opinion. He thinking is about to cost you some real money.

That was his words. "I think its the connecting rod bearings." "I need to keep tearing it down to find out." "It could be 4K after all said and done with parts and labor." Once I get it back I'm gonna check over the things everyone mentioned here. If all else fails, Barnes Performance Shop here we come.

X2. After 4k $$ and you still have the problem and he just stands there scratching his ass....

Get it home and check it all out before you even take it somewhere else. You will be glad ya did.
