What should the price be on the 10K service from a BD dealer? What price did you pay if you are not doing it yourself?

I am in Charleston SC and I am being told 8-10 hours at 85 per hour just for the labor. That would be at least 1000 bucks when all is said and done.

I could probably do it myself but to be honest I do not want the bike to be out of service that long, nor do I have all of the tools and most importantly, I do not have the knowledge to do the job IMO???? Maybe I do, hell who knows?. I dropped the bike off today to have the major stuff done and left the shocks and bearings for a future time. I just did the front and rear brakes so I can hit the other stuff in the near future.

YOu should do your own brakes. 2 bolts holding the caliper on and one pin. SUPER EASY.
The 10k is allot of work. Its a complete service, but also the bearings in the neck and wheels. Plus the forks themselves. Even for me, it would take 2 days. I would do all the oils, tear down the front end and pull the wheels. Maybe rebuild the forks in the first day. Second day would be bearings and re-assemble.

Hey Gas,
I did the front brakes a couple months ago, real easy. Rebuilt the MC and that was not bad. I have a motor or tranny leak and need that fixed first.

I hope the dealer's wearing a patch over one eye, a saber on his side, has a wooden leg, a hook for one hand and a talking parrot on his shoulder!:roll: If not, he's missing his true calling!:loony: I'd shop around, for sure!

Ive also been told it takes around ten hours to do everything BDM suggests, and to do it properly. So yeah thats about $1000.00 by the time you get fluids, gaskets, parts involved.
And with doing all the bearings and forks... I can believe the 10 hrs
K9, I don't know about your shop but I would definitely confirm exactly what they did when they are done. I don't really think most of the stuff on that long list was done when I had mine in.10K service in my neck of the woods, following the bullet points in the Owner's Manual for the tasks reguired at 10K, has been quoted at $519.99 by my dealer. Is he overlooking something?
One other thing, if you have 10K on your bike then definitely replace the bushing in the forks. Don't do like I did and over look it and end up buying new fork tubes. The bushing have a Teflon coating on them. When that wears then you are rubbing metal to metal and the chrome on the tubes will be the first to go and then the leaks start.
A lot of folks here have recommended changing them at 5K just cause of the wear issue.
Take the list in the back of your owners manual with you and ask about each non-normal service item to ensure they did them.

Here in Northern California, my dealer shows a price close to $1000 for the 10K service.
This same dealer charges $300 just to do the fork seals. Of course, at $110/hour, I guess it adds up pretty quick.
